Pirates hate ninjas. Ninjas hate pirates. It’s that simple. Why? Because the Internet said so.
That right there is reason enough for Flaming Lizard’s Xbox LIVE Arcade and PlayStation Network title Pirates vs. Ninjas Dodgeball to exist. But, it doesn’t matter why these groups hate each other, does it? We never asked why the skinny team hated the medium team in Nintendo’s Ice Hockey, did we? They just didn’t like each other, OK? Jesus ...
Settling a feud with a game of dodgeball is as old as mankind itself. Anthropologists have reported findings that indicate that three versus three stone tossing battles were used to settle pterodactyl ownership disputes. Hell, just the other day I pegged my wife in the head with a rubber ball after she refused to heat up a plate of leftovers for me. She retaliated, and now I can’t feel my ears.
Dodgeball. It’s the great equalizer. This isn’t the first time Destructoid has had a chance to go hands-on with Pirates vs. Ninjas Dodgeball, and it doesn’t appear there’s much new to report. The game looks great for a digital download title, and is relatively fun to play in group, and can best be described as “what you see is what you get.” The game is essentially in the can, so Flaming Lizard is simply waiting for the “OK” from the big dogs at Microsoft and Sony before the game sees release.
I was able to confirm that one new level will be available for download a few weeks after launch, followed by an entirely new level and a new team. While it doesn’t look like details on the DLC will be revealed prior to release, enjoy these new screens and start deciding now – whose side are you on? Pirates, ninjas, zombies, or robots?
I agree, but size restrictions may not allow them to include all of the content in the initial download. Also, they may also have come up with the fifth team late in the development cycle, and instead of holding up the game, decided to just do additional content.
also, I can totally see a Mr. Destructiod character fitting into the mix nicely.
True enough and I can understand a late development addition as a reason for DLC so soon after release but size restrictions are only a problem for XBLA.
I look at this way -- and I'm not trying to be a hater here -- does this mean that the size limitations of XBLA could potentially screw PS3 owners with unnecessary DLC? I'm sure Sony is crushed by making some extra money here and there, but from a consumer standpoint, wouldn't it suck to have to pay extra for features just because one platform has some restrictions?
We get to buy games in parts of they are too big. I would agree that DLC with SOME titles is just making you pay more for what could have been in the original game.

next time, walk away first, then post.
Who doesn’t love dodgeball? I’m definitely going to check this out.
man, I remember back in the day getting to actually LEAVE the classroom to go OUTSIDE and PLAY dodgeball. What could have been better??
Oh, I know what was better, the sound the ball made after connecting with the small of someone's back at full impact!!
oh, the memories!!
*cries*
Really, man? Dodgeball was fun. It's the only sport where the point is to hit your friends in the face with a ball as hard as possible. How can you not like that? But, thanks, atleast I know that I'm a douchbag hipster now.
anyone who doesn't like dodgeball is obviously a communist. or worse.
I digest. Zombies + Pirates + Dodgeball = fun drunk game!
