Eidos trademarks Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days photo

Despite being known only for being a bad game and getting a GameSpot editor fired when he dared to say so, Kane & Lynch is getting a sequel. According to a new trademark from Eidos/Square Enix Europe, the next title in the series will be known henceforth as Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days.

Although the original game was, by all accounts, a piece of crap, the premise was cool and the characters pretty interesting. If Eidos can get some competent developers on the case for this second outing, who knows? Perhaps Kane & Lynch can find redemption among the masses yet.

We'll have to wait for Dog Days to appear as more than a mere trademark filing before we can tell if it'll be just another trainwreck, but I hope it does well. The characters were unique enough to deserve to be in a good game.

I can't wait to see what wacky PR antics our zany Eidos will get into next! Maybe you'll get fired, Jim!

I enjoyed the first one as a rental......play it co-op with a buddy and finish it in a few hours...good fun.

I'd never pay more than $20 for another game like it, though

Stop swearing so much, and maybe I'll give the sequel a try. Did the editor really get fired because he gave it a low score?

I'm really happy that they are making a sequel. Everything about the first one was great except for the game play. Possible cameo by Squall?

I agree, even with the header image you used, those two characters ooze with more personality than is usually ever afforded to the protagonist of a video game.

I'd say IO Interactive are generally pretty competent developers who had a bad game...

Yeah, the first would have been pretty good had they not made the aiming such crap. You pretty much sprayed randomly in the general direction of your reticule, which made it beyond frustrating to play. The prison sequence was particularly awesome, aiming b.s. aside.

Also, speaking of IO, why haven't they done a Freedom Fighters sequel? That game was awesome.

If Ubisoft can make Red Steel 2, IO can sure as hell make K&L 2.

Here's hoping it gets another obnoxious editor sacked.

Cant believe people complaining about K&L all the time!
It think its a good shooter, good settings, interesting chars, allot of action, couch coop, solid graphics.
Bullets spraying around? If you shoot with full automatic fire its absolutly normal that you dont hit with every bullet! Also i liked its degree of difficulty.

People geting spoiled really fast these days!

This series can go screw itself ater getting someone fired for stating their opinion.

@ SuitcoatAvenger

Whoops is the only word that can truly explain that game.

I enjoyed it, especially the online multiplayer - the whole online mechanic was sweet.

It was an "early in the generation" game, give it a break.

K&L has got my interest.

Hey Eidos, my Score Whore Ultimate Review: Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days (PS3) review score is for sale! For the low, low price of only $4999.99 plus two copies of the game (so I can review the online co-op) I'll guarantee a score of at least 9/11. For an additional payment of $999.99 I'll throw in a Kane & Lynch header graphic on my blog for an entire month.

PM me immediately on the forums as I am eager to complete this deal. Further services available upon request.

I actually enjoyed the game.
I've always loved Gritty crime games & such,& I found the characters & story intriguing, so I guess I was looking at(& grading) the wrong part.
the game played decently, I'm not sure why people think it's such a bowl of ass.

The concept was great, the execution was terrible though. Let's hope they learned from their mistakes.

Also the co-op aspect when the Lynch player goes psychotic was one of the most clever innovations in a game I've seen in ages. Give us more of that.

I liked it. Yeah, the aiming was... sluggish is the word that springs to mind. But it was a great story, and me and my mate used to play the level where you have to bring the Helicopter down in SA over, and over, and over. Muchos fun. But the whole reticule in treacle thing did stop it from being great. Oh, the weird auto cover mechanic was stupid. Why do it so wrong? Surely Gears showed us that pressing A to dive in and out of cover is bang-on perfect the way to do it. Did Epic copywrite that cover assignment or something?

I liked Kane and Lynch, yeah the controls were terrible but I played it thinking that if they had another chance they would fix the problems (as with the Army of Two sequel (fingers crossed!!))

I'll definitely be getting this, I'm interested to know what keeps them together in this game knowing that the reason is gone from the first.
