     EGM

The fine folks at Electronic Gaming Monthly are making another great case as to why print's simply not dead -- their next cover story feature will reveal the upcoming title, Watchmen: The End is Nigh

Not a game based on the forthcoming movie, Watchmen: The End is Nigh is a prequel, fleshing out much of the back-story referenced in the classic graphic novel. The End is Nigh is being developed by Denmark-based Deadline Games, is being penned by Len Wein, will episodic and -- get this -- downloadable.

The latest issue of EGM will feature 20 screenshots of the title, as well as a slew of interviews and info that should give you the skinny. So do the folks at Ziff Davis a favor and resist the urge to look at the scans and info that will undoubtedly appear on NeoGAF within the next ten minutes -- go buy a magazine!

Kind of reminds me of when "The Godfather: The Game (By the way, don't you hate when they put 'The Game' after a title? No shit it's a game, it's in the games section and says PS2 on the side)" was announced.

I heard of this a while back. Supposedly its a beat 'em up where you play as either Rorschach or Nightowl, each with their own stats and such. From what I heard it had a great visual style, or was at least hoping to.

Here's to hoping it came together for them (i.e. won't suck as much balls as it probably deserves to for messing with the Watchmen).

Then you could go to a place far away where this game doesn't exist. But then who doesn't enjoy making money off other people's ideas? At least Gibbons and Higgins get some money out of this.

I don't know about this...I'm not confident this can be pulled off.

What really bothers me is in that picture there's the reason I hate printed gaming mags: Reviews Showdown. I don't think any two of those eight games could fairly be compared, yet they'll all get some arbitrary number and one will get game of the month and fanboys will wet themselves over it.

I think a Watchmen game could be cool. On one hand as a long time comic fan I hate seeing it get whored out, but on the other hand I think it could be a really cool game depending on the visuals and faithfulness to the characters.

Actually lost for words. I'm so disappointed in this news as i can't see any way in hell how this game will be worth playing.

*sigh*

I'd say it has an appropriate subtitle, at least. Fingers crossed, but I don't have any high hopes.

I'm gonna go out and cry out sacrilege on this.

I don't know how can you make a prequel of one of the most iconic novels of our time (graphic or otherwise) without involving at least one of the people involved in the original.

(sigh)

Watchmen game? Sure, if it's built on the SCUMM engine or something.

Watchmen as a brawler, as this game is rumored to be? No thanks. Yeah, there's some fisticuffs in Watchmen, but it's just an element of the story, not the focus. That would be like making a James Bond game focused strictly on racing an Aston Martin (oh, wait...)

Whatever.

Here's hoping for some polygonal Doc Manhattan wangpiece action, no matter what the end result.

I read some of the graphic novel and liked it a lot. Hopefully this won't suck, but that's wishful thinking (Don't know about any of you, but I have no idea who Deadline Games is).

I'm sorry but I can barely see how the movie is going to be satisfactory. The game being only a Prequel will definately be unsatisfactory. Honestly the best platform for the Watchmen would have been a 12 episode HBO series or something. Playing it issue by issue until the end.

oh well at least I have the graphic novel to keep me satisfied.

I interpreted the description as "Backstory featured in the novel" because the film isn't long enough to contain all the information of the comic. Can anyone confirm if it's a prequel to the book or to the film?

"The games will serve as prequels to the film, chronicling the vigilante team of Rorschach and Nite Owl in their earlier days."
-Gamespot (ergh)

So I'm sure they will take a lot of liberties.
