EGM is back

EGM is back photo

Remember childhood? It was a time of innocence and happiness, when everything was always sunshine and roses and if it wasn't your mommy would take care of it. It was a time when the printed medium ruled and every month you'd get a new edition of EGM and literally scour every page again and again. Then you grew up, and the internet came along and you stopped looking at EGM despite the fact that it had given you so much. Then one day EGM was gone and you were sad. It was kind of like that book The Giving Tree, except in book the tree can't come back.

Wait, come back? That's right snitches, EGM will rise from the grave like the carcass of your girlfriend after you've chopped her head off with a shovel and she becomes possessed by a deadite. The magazine is being reborn under the guidance of its original founder, Steve Harris. Harris entered into an agreement with Ziff Davis Media to require the rights to Electronic Gaming Monthly (old school font in tact) and is hoping to "continue delivering quality content to gaming enthusiasts." He believes that the magazine can be successful, and we're guessing he's right if he budgets everything right and doesn't let it turn into the bloated mammoth that sunk it originally. The press release says that more will be announced at E3.

Ziff Davis couldn't be happier either, saying, "“We are pleased that EGM is now in the hands of its original creator, Steve Harris, and wish him and the publication the best of success in the future.” How about you? Will you be shutting the computer down and picking up printed page once again when EGM starts shipping? You know these blog things are pretty crappy; they'll hire anyone

I will most certainly be renewing my unfinished subscription to EGM. Favorite mag of all time.

Printed magazines? EGM should launch an online electronic subscription magazine. They would save a lot of money by selling E-magazines.

I bought it every month until it's demise. It was the only magazine(of any type) I ever spent money on consistently like that.

I don't see why that would change now either.

The only US gaming mag I read--EDGE and Retro Gamer are two good ones from the UK, but pricey here in the states. It sure would be nice if they renewed my subscription that went unfulfilled, but I'll gladly order a new one anyway.

SICK BURN MATT SICK BURN

Really happy to see this coming back. I don't read EGM much, but I know it was a staple of a lot of people's diets around here. Rejoice!

EGM? Aren't those the same critics that either score a game a 3.5 or a 10?

Know what would make ME happy?

Nintendo Power is taken from Future and given back to Nintendo. The return of huge maps detailing the locations of every secret in the latest games! The return of Howard Phillips and the Nester comics! Free DVDs mailed to subscribers every so often with behind-the-scenes looks at upcoming games just like they did for Donkey Kong Country and Star Fox 64!

I actually prefer reading Game Developer magazine, it's so much more better, and they actually talk about what makes a good game or not. It's a really good read.

Based on this, I'm going to assume that you suck as a person, because only losers have the name Terry.

(hint: that's just as valid an argument as yours)

"I disagree with what someone said but I can't come up with a decent rebuttal, I KNOW, I'll attack his avatar and use that support my argument, it will make me look witty and cool in front of my internet peers, TAKE THAT INTERNET STRANGE"

Seriously, Esques, OBrien, shut the fuck up.

And as long as Hsu stays FAR away from it, I guess it could work, the mag went to absolute shit when he came back. Hopefully this new one will be like the olders, more organized, more review space, etc.

Goddamn you're bad at this internet thing.

@Kyousuke

Normally I look at your comments and I'm like "what a shitty stupid opinion from a douchebag" and while saying I should shut up is one of those times I've gotta agree that Hsu should stay the fuck away.

Fortunately he's got other things going so he'll probably not be available. Unfortunately neither is anybody who made that magazine great.

I like that I'm bad at being an annoying douchebag who uses the anonymity of the internet as an excuse to drop all consideration of any values or intellect I might have. Thank you very much.

To be back on topic (sorry), if EGM was such a great magazine, it wouldn't have folded like it did. Hopefully the new EGM will be a little different. It's boring only having one good, somewhat honest gaming publication in this country.

@X51, EGM had an incredible amount of subscribers. The problem wasn't the consumer base or the amount of subscriptions or even the quality of the magazine. It was the higher ups.
Please stop shitting on this news for no real reason other than your own misguided views. No need for it. Take the high road and stop.

I try, but I keep being pulled back in! I just want out of this merry-go-round of dis and counter dis. Truth be told, I'm indifferent to EGM. It's not my cup of tea. If other people like it, cool. I don't know what it is, but I've been on such a confrontational bent lately. Maybe it's that male PMS thing I keep hearing about.

this is great news, too bad printed media is becoming an increasingly irrelevant medium. i won't be subscribing but i'll be damned if my toilet won't adorn a few news stand copies of it here and there.

speaking of irrelevant: you lads wagging your cocks around at each other? knock it off, you're not helping anything. at any rate greenday has always been a pop band.

Can't say I'm that excited. I already have destructoid, so why would I need a magazine? A Magazine I can't get in 90% of the News Agencies in Queensland that I visit, and I'm not going to subscribe to something I can find for FREE online. Sure, EGM were kinda funny, sometimes. I enjoyed reading the colorful magazines as a kid. But in this economic climate, I can't even afford a daily newspaper.

It is not the right time for them to be bringing back EGM. They should have waited at least a year.
