Edge's Let's Tap review: A disservice to gamers photo

Look, we're not here to say which reviews are right or wrong, and we're not saying that opinions aren't important, but Edge's review of Let's Tap is wrong and the opinions are completely unimportant. With this in mind, we definitely recommend that you ignore the desperate-for-attention, we're-going-to-prove-our-elite-status so-called "review" from Edge that has the entire Internet talking.

I'm not linking to it because it doesn't deserve to be linked to. Let's just say that Let's Tap got an 8. Like I said, we're not going to question Edge's opinions, as questionable as they are. By giving Let's Tap an 8, Edge basically said "this is not the greatest videogame ever made and we don't want to suck its golden, console-exclusive cock." That is a lie. That ... is ... a ... lie.

The Let's Tap review is unprofessional and controversy for controversy's sake. We ALL know that Let's Tap is the greatest game about tapping on cardboard boxes ever made, and for Edge to not reflect that by giving it an 8 instead of a 15 is, quite frankly, emotionally devastating. As hardcore gaming journalists, we believe in toeing the industry line and giving a game the same score that everybody else gave it so there's a nice little column of the same number on Metacritic. If you DARE post a different number, you are unprofessional and should, to be perfectly honest, die

Your job is to make the reader feel safe and secure about his financial and emotional investment, and Edge failed each and every one of its readers with this horrible review. How are videogame journalists going to get the respect they deserve if they don't give perfect scores to important console exclusives? All you do is come across as a stuck-up little kid who is trying to prove how clever he is at the expense of the consumer.

For your sake, please please PLEASE ignore the Edge review. Those lying c*nts.

Unbelieveable column from PSXtreme, easily one of the worst pieces of "journalism" I've ever seen, alongside all of the Daily Mail. Most of the comments brightened up my morning, however - especially the one saying 87 is a terrible score for Killzone.

The fact people are swayed by ratings is actually sad enough.

" Your job is to make the reader feel safe and secure about his financial and emotional investment"

NEeeeeeh not really.
Their job is to give an opinion from their VIEW.
And guess what we all have an opinion!

I mean i know for sure you some of you don't dare give a lower rating than 9 if everyone else did give a 9 to a game.
Reviewers are always biased in a way and corrupt the system because of rabbit fanboys. Its all good for the industry right?!

Then again i hardly read reviews, so i can't be complaining.

To quote PSXE user Zovie on the original article:

"Why so low?" I like how Ben Dutka, in his entire fanboy tirade never once mentions the actual content of the review and what he thought was wrong with it, besides the score.

The complaints made about the game, in the actual Edge review, are absolutely valid. Whether or not those aspects of the game are important to you, the consumer, is entirely subjective. As such the review is just another point of view. You don't have to agree with it, you don't have to like it, but then, the review itself doesn't seem to be the problem here... Just the number attached to the end.

It doesn't matter. It matters so little it isn't even funny. Ben, maybe you will someday realize this and I hope that when that time comes, you will feel a little bit stupid.

Amen, brother.

I love some of the comments on this site:

"i cant wait until the crapbox stops being able to pump out games at a high level compared to the ps3. then all the pro-xbox sites will be forced to look at the ps3 with more of an open mind."

Tasty hypocrisy.

It is becoming increasingly apparent that MODERN video game reviewing is becoming less about professional, objective, critical view of a product and more about who can be the most smarmy and sarcastic.

More and more in reviews I read statements like "This game CLEARLY sucks" often times seem to be more a reference to a segment of fanboys (or even another review outlet's scoring of a particular game) than a clear and direct statement about the quality of the game.

In fact, most times in articles like this "This game CLEARLY sucks" means that the reviewer thinks SO highly of the game that they feel that the higest mark of praise is to play this game to ... I don't know, scare off a segment of the consumer populace that they don't deem worthy of its wonders?

Yes, in the future those of us who enjoy the works of Oscar Wilde will be able to fully understand a review ... but certainly this isn't doing anything to help the
profession of game reviewers and at the worst is in fact damaging the opinions of a game in the short-term for those who don't take the time to read between the lines (not ALL of them are bad folk you know).

after reading the link that Niero was kind enough to post I now get it. I wish I would've when I read the article the first time as it isn't very funny now. still, it's a good article, Jim.

That was amazing.

But seriously, that douche over at PSXtreme cannot be called a legitimate journalist. Expressing distaste towards another (more well respected, I might add) magazine/website's review is something you'd expect from a fucking 12 year old who just discovered the 'net.

"We all know that Guerilla's title is one of the best FPSs ever made; anyone who knows this industry and has a functioning brain will admit to this. They may not like it, but they will admit to its quality. This is what good reviewers do."

He's fucking kidding, right? I played it and I didn't enjoy it. It seemed like just another generic cookie cutter FPS churned out by the machine.

I have to say though, that I think this Ben Dutka lad may very well be the most memorable troll in recent history.

I meant to say "Expressing distaste in such a way towards another..."

That made me sound like a contradictory prick.

I dont see why they would complain about Let's Tap scores, when its a completely different game than Killzone 2. There are PLENTY of games out there like Killzone 2, wich is possibly even better than it. But Let's Tap is pretty much the only game of its kind, so it probably deserves a 8/10.

I trust the reviews from Edge, and 7/10 is not a bad score at all.

A trend this generation is that all x360/PS3 games seem to be destined to receive score in the 9-10 range, no matter how good or mediocre they are. It obviously a crime to give HD-games low scores.
With wii games it's the opposite, its almost illegal giving good scores to a wii game.

Yep... i went there.

Theres so much sarcasm in this article and in the comments i think my head is going to explode.

In my opinion destructoid and screwattack are the only rays of light in gaming jornalism at he moment.

And honestly, PSxExtreme.com, wat sort of name is that. You would think they were run by 10 year olds just by looking at that name.
