Edge of Twilight truly blurs the lines between good and evil? photo

Eurogamer has some pretty awesome-sounding details concerning the steampunk adventure Edge of Twilight, due for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3. The game is said to be heavily story-driven, with the tale of amoral bounty hunter Lex being "fundamental" to the game. The storyline also aims to truly blur the lines between good and evil, as nothing will be done in the game without some sort of justification for the action, as explained by the developer, Fuzzyeyes:

"A lot of games that blur the lines between good and evil will focus more on giving you two choices that are obviously good and bad. What we're doing is putting the player in a world were nothing is, or has been, done without justification."

Lex is a half-breed outcast from the two opposing factions that make up Edge of Twilight's world. As someone bred of both the light race and the dark race, Lex will have the ability to shift between two different personas depending on his surroundings.

"As the day persona, reflecting the industrial race, you're strong and forceful with the ability to operate machinery, break the scenery and bludgeon enemies in a manner tha's less than graceful. As the night persona you represent the spiritual race and your movement is much more swift and agile, opening up new areas to explore, and your fighting style also reflects this. Many environments will require you to use both of these abilities and your brain to find an exit, which allowed us to make some mind-bending environmental puzzles that span over the two realms."

Although not an RPG, Edge of Twilight will feature a lot of customization. We should also get it out of the way now -- there is no multiplayer, so you can get over the lack of that meaningless addition now and get super-interested in what sounds like a highly compelling adventure game.

[Cheers, Cobra]

Hmm, the only thing I remain cynical about is the possibility of playing every map twice, once as light, once as dark. Other than that, I'm officially intrigued.

Soul Reaver did the same thing. I remember the first one being awesome. The way the world twisted was cool. The whole "replaying" maps thing in light and dark has been done to death though. Link to the Past, Metroid Prime 2, Soul Reaver, even Super Paper Mario. I'm kind of sick of it, to be honest, but if the actual style of play changes, I could live with that.

Looks interesting, but I'm not sure where the Steampunk angle comes in.

Yay, another game where you're either a goody-goody two shoes or super killer warmonger.

I hope they can actually pull it off. Too many games (like BioShock) claim to have good and evil choices but it's all basically the same in the end.

My interest is certainly piqued. I'll definitely keep my eyes peeled for more information.

I'm thinking it is like Bioshock and somewhat like Azurik (sp?), and I mean it in a good way.

But no release date yet?

Sounds like the definition of "hopefully good game, always ends up as generic flawed game int he end" in my brain. These games always sound good and end up shit. Like Dark Sector :P

What pew said was pretty much my exact line of thought. Unknown and unproven developer means my anticipation is reserved. They did name ico as an influence though, so can't be all bad.

Never heard of it, but hopefully more details and a trailer will shed some light on it.

From the looks of it, the game looks to be Legacy of Kain + Fable which would be AMAZING!!![/Chad]

The concept sounds fucking cool. The two different types during light and dark makes me think of the wolf mode in Twilight Princess (which was the best part about the game).

If they take that idea, and they expand upon it further than a Zelda game would dare to go, I think there is big potential for an awesome game.
