Ed Boon reveals rig used to animate Goro in original MK photo

Ed Boon is making quite the splash on Twitter. Two days ago the Midway Games head honcho and brain behind the Mortal Kombat series confirmed the next Mortal Kombat wouldn’t carry a girlie rating. Earlier yesterday, the man shared the below gallery image with all his followers. It’s Goro. A tiny Goro, that is.

As our friends at Giant Bomb and Ed Boon note, this is the stop-motion rig that Midway used to make Goro spring to life in the original Mortal Kombat.  It’s cute and frankly, it freaks us out. Games used to be made this way, man. Talk about a time warp.

Well, they did use digitized actors for the rest of them. I'm not exactly surprised that this is how they got Goro in the game.

What are you talking about? All they had to do was find a giant 4-armed man to act the role of Goro. Shouldn't have been too hard :\

I never really thought about how they made Goro: Just assumed they'd put a guy in a rubber suit, the copied and pasted another pair of arms on. Didn't they do that for the later 4-armed people?

Is it me or is there a lot of a mortal kombat news lately?

But the combat is soooooo CHUNKY! Chunky I tell you! MK Deception on Xbox was my first & last. It's hard to think that last one sold so well....

- Hey, I've got an idea. How about the internet just ignore any MK info for a year or two. ,just to see what would happen.... Come-on, it could be fun!

Fail

Any MK made after Mortal Kombat 3 was not representative of the series at all.

Ever since I was a child I wondered how they animated Goro.

Now I know. And knowing is half the battle..

the other half is "Rockets are badass".
