EB/Gamestop boost trade-in value on 360s; at least now they're using lube ... photo

With the announcement of the Xbox 360 Elite, rumors of a special incentive-laden trade-in plan for the owners of older 360 models sprung up almost immediately. Of course, Microsoft and the EB/Gamestop conglomerate denied any such rumors, leading people to cease speculation as to if it would happen, and to instead wonder when it would happen. As the old adage states: Nothing says yes like saying no.

Apparently it just happened! EB/Gamestop is now offering $250 for Xbox 360 Premium systems (up from $190 last week), as well as $200 for the Core system and $50 for an original Xbox. For those actually thinking this is a generous move, you have to remember that they sell these systems back to people very similar to you for roughly 10% off of the original price, and then all of that profit goes directly to building a machine to launch puppies into the ocean. Yeah, it's unexpectedly and ridiculously cruel, but it makes the shareholders laugh.

I wonder if they will take my special Red Ring Of Death model? The fucking thing died 12 days after the warranty pasted and they want money to fix it.
Dam You Bill Gates. DAM YOU!

We must save the puppies!

@ Dr Hairy Dwarf: I remember that I traded in my old GBA when the GBA SP came out. My GBA's R button was incredibly wonky (not sure why), but they just tapped all the buttons once and took it, no questions asked. They don't check trade-ins that well.

What a horseshit company!

I recently "broke up" with gamestop, we'll never see each other again, and while i might miss some parts of our relationship, i certainly won't miss being sold used games for NEW prices, and being talked down to by 45 year old virgins.

I'll buy an Elite new, and keep my other xbox just so i don't have to walk into that shit hole again.

Frackers!!

They do check systems...

I had an older PS2 with the disc read error, and when one GS wouldn't take it back, I did a manual repair on the drive, then took it to another store after I verified it was working and they took it back.

At the very least they're going to plug your system in to make sure it doesn't red ring immediately on boot up.

Attention potential Elite upgraders. Sell your Premium on eBay. I bought two 360 systems off of ebay with no issues. USED 360s regularly sell for $300+ Red ring 360's usually sell for $150 or so...

They sell premium systems? Last time I was in an EB (or was it GameStop?) I was told they didn't sell premium 360s. Lying bastards.

Unless they let you transfer the data between the hard drives, this may be the single stupidest move you could make.

I think it would be funny to watch a machine throw puppies into the ocean.

Amazing, Microsoft releases a less crappy version of the x360 (one that, we hope, will not break near as much and scratch disc) and us original "old skoolers" of the 360 are screwed. Way to go, M$! I love the fact that they have better fans and run better. I was officially raped by Micro & Soft.
