EB Games in Australia pushing for R18+ classification photo

EB Games of Australia wants to fight the good fight! The company is supporting the campaign for introducing an R18+ classification for videogames in Australia. All 364 EB Games stores in the country are throwing up signs like the one above to make their customers aware of the issue and sign in store petitions like the one in our gallery or online at EB Game's Web site

EB polled their customers and of the 50,000 people that responded, 84% of them were in favor of the new rating system. Aussies have until February 14 to sign the petition and if and hopefully this big push will create a change over down under.

As corny I might sound, this is historic! I am sick as hell of the bullshit Australia has to create about mature games when movies and other mediums get a free pass.

i hope for the best for my aussie buds down there, i have been always been NTSC but I cannot tolerate such things like stupidity.

Well, if a large company like GameStop/EB can put some muscle behind those petitions, then Atkinson will lose ground! YAYY!

"GROW UP"

What a great tagline. God fuck I hope this the moment the Aussies have been waiting for.

84% showed support? Are the other 16% retarded?

I've been pushing this link on to everybody all day. If you are Australian, send the link to everybody you know! You literally just have to type your name, email address and click OK, and your signature/vote will go directly to the Attorney Generals Department in a, hopefully, enormous list; courtesy of EBGames.

Pretty much the best thing they've done for me since I got Okami on PS2 for $12.

This is all nice and all, but this just reeks like all petitions, you can have millions of people supporting a cause, but it has almost zero political clout. Unless the gamers do something drastic like boycotting the government or not flushing the toilet, I doubt this will go anywhere.

A better thing to do is persuade the government that R18 or M rated games can bring in a lot of customers and tax the video game sales, instead of you know smuggling illicit video games. That way the customers are happy to see blood and tits, and the government gets money to fill their coffers. Lord knows the government needs money seeing the prices in Australia.

Do this
I am proud Australia even though they are doing this just so they can sell the video games that get banned which are usually popular but hey let it be

@Chronic Logic.

Its actually part of a Discussion Paper released by the Government and is calling for Public Submissions on the topic of whether or not there should be an R18+ Rating for Video Games in Australia.

So its not like a normal petition that can be ignored, its a Government Paper that they can then choose to ignore =P

Oh, and Gamers are standing for State Parliment in South Australia, 1 for the Upper House (think Senate) and one is running against the only vocal Classification Minister opposed to the rating in his own seat for the Lower House (the House).

So yeah, things are being done to raise awareness in the public and take real solid action....not just petitions.

How is this even a question?
Why don't the government just pass this, everybody wins.

No Chronic, you are wrong.

Previous petitions were based online, which is less credible in the grand scheme of things. EB/Game are huge part of the games retail sector and hold a lot of sway. They don't magic those free demos and content for pre-orders from nowhere.

With EB pushing it for themselves and the customers, other retailers might decide to join them. Good luck aussie gamers, sign up and fight the powers that be.

Give a discount to anyone that buy a game and signs up might be a cool idea too.

Hopefully the petition works, because I've never heard anything good about something that the Australian government did and this might change that.

Good for Aussies, banding together with retailers should give 'em the much needed momentum to give stupid politicians the proverbial kick the nads.

I agree with this. We need to state the distinction clearly. yet there are so many international games, such as those from Japan, that are absolutely not good for teenagers.
