The original Nintendo Entertainment System has spawned everything from tremendous recreations to backpacks and still remains my favorite icon in gaming history. There are very few dedications to the controller that have the retro element and also manage to be classy, but this badge from Supermandolini manages to pull off both and make it look effortless to boot.
What makes this piece even cooler is that it is the first in a limited edition series called Console Wars. Supermandolini describes it as "The first in a series of limited edition pin 'medals' that celebrate the memories of endless epic battles, infinite high scores and numerous blistered fingers." I couldn't have put it better myself.
This little guy will run you about €18, which rounds out to about $35.27 in US dollars. Not too shabby a price to earn your stripes (and considerably less painful than boot camp.) I'm going to finish this post and then I'm going promptly to the site to order myself one. I can't think of a better way to proudly declare to the world that I survived the retro console wars.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
I mean, I'm all over the idea itself, but... eesh, that needs a redesign.
Now that I would shell out $40 for.
The NES was genetically superior.
The "Nerdcore" shirt looks neat too.
@ Calico
You fellows are thinking of the Iron Cross and yes... it sorta looks like it.
Fun fact: Henry Ford was awarded the Iron Cross!!
Cool idea, bad design.
Anything that has an iron cross and a retro N controller is OK for me!
You know, private first class in the 8-Bit Division or whatever.

Maybe I'll send him one with explicit instructions and sit that quiz out. It would be FUN!
Have different styles, the better ones be for harder challenges.
Also, I too am awaiting those retroforce shirts proclaiming my Sega-Affiliation from the 16 bit era. THough now it's like how vets go visit the peaceful parts of Nam and make their peace, I to have made my peace with the SNES. Not that I ever had much against it, it's just I was a sega kid.
Seriously considering buying one of these.
And every console needs one of these.

Dunno about you guys.. looks almost a Axis Symbol.. just pointing out.. if i was seen from afar with that>>
They should really consider changing up the color scheme on this one...
<3
Sorry dude, with those colours, it's clearly German at the very least. You might be able to make the argument that Germany used the black/white/red and similar shapes before WWII -- the NSDAP basically took old designs and added swastikas -- but still... I think we all know where the designers took their inspiration.
... not that there's anything wrong with that ;)
