....But from a competitive angle, I dont see how it compares to anything else on offer.
Someone get up in this bitch with some bar graphs or something.
@Stevil Leslie Nielsen has a dark side. I can see it. I can believe it. However, this photo of Barney Fife has bothered me for years:
BARNEY FIFE IS THE ZODIAC KILLER.
Not only that, but every time I post this:
they send me a new Xbox!

"Free shit? This isnt fucking free and everyone has a right to complain about this. You pay 60 bucks a year and they are basing these rewards through achievements? I still dont understand how most of you like xbl is a better option than ps+"
"You can pay $50 a year for PS+ (optional) and get hundreds of dollars in games to play. Or pay $60 a year for live and get 1% reward on purchases?"
First of all, nobody was comparing this to PS+ (which I'll get to in a minute). In fact, nobody was talking about PS+ at all until you brought it up.
Second, for the record, you get a bit more for your $60 Gold subscription than this paltry 1%, such as the weekly Deal (which more than covers the price of Gold if you're into downloading games and/or DLC) and the aforementioned Rewards program, from which I've personally earned 1850 Microsoft points (~$23) for doing nothing more than taking a one minute survey every month and purchasing things that I had already planned on buying anyway. Again, I'm not comparing Gold to PS+, I'm just saying that you DO get more than just the ability to play online with your $60, which is something people commonly (purposefully?) forget to mention.
Now, on to PS+. I've been using it for about three months now, and I can say, without any hesitation, that it is one of the best deals in gaming. Not only do you commonly see brand new games given away for free (Double Dragon Neon) or discounted on day one (Counter-Strike GO), but the amount of older games and DLC they're constantly adding to their free section is so good it's overwhelming. And once you get over the fact that you're just "renting" these games for ~$5 a month (cheaper than GameFly, for the record) and just start enjoying it for what it is, there is NO denying that it is a better "value" than Xbox Gold.
THAT SAID, even if Gold didn't offer me anything more than the ability to play online with my friends, I would still gladly pay $60 a year just for that. (Assuming I couldn't find it for half that on Amazon, which is almost always the case.) Why? Because I like Xbox Live better than PSN. Between the party chats, network stability, ease of use, and just general "feel" of the thing, it just fits my style better, and, for me, is worth the price of admission.
TL;DR - Boner boner boner semen boner boner boner.
I stopped using them years ago, not looked back since. Waste of time and money, both services.
But nah, this seems fine. I really didn't get how they'd come to a conclusion on a really fair way to do this, in the first place, unless it was nothing more the nonsense Avatar stuff. And like Andy said, I'm a pretty big fan of it too, Since I joined this and Bing Rewards I hadn't had to pay for MS point for about 2 years (like Kwikpwn said) until this past August when a lot of things came out, like ME3's Leviathan DLC, Walking Dead Ep3, Skyrim's Hearthfire DLC and other stuff I couldn't wait on a sale for (though, in hindsight, despite having a 100% in Skyrim achievements now, I could have waited for Hearthfire)
Plus, I'm a bit of an achievement whore any way, so this just makes me feel better for spending so much time trying to get them.
My mind is just completely blown by the rest of you who are complaining about this. Your getting something for doing things the system forces you to get any way (unless the achievements are hard or hidden)... It just doesn't make sense to be this pissy over it when Microsoft doesn't have to give us shit, specially since they really haven't for years (I have a big problem with their contests and refunds as it is, they technically still owe me 800ms points from both last Halloween and a promotion the year before that.). Yeah, its no PSN+, its not free games, but its better then nothing at all.
So, my question is, is this why I randomly got 240ms point for absolutely no reason, marked as "Credit" in my Microsoft Billing and Subscriptions page? Cause Supposedly they had a spend 1600 on sports DLC promotion that gave back 240ms points recently, but I don't play Sports games, nor do I buy Sports DLC (durrr) so there was really no reason for them to give me points. Not that I'm complaining, I just found it odd to get points I wasn't expecting (I keep tabs on my monthly survey points from Rewards Surveys)
Also I want to note, Microsoft's online store is doing a kinda sweet promo where if you pre-order an upcoming game, like RE6 (though there isn't much time for that) AC3, and other big names, they'll give you a $10 coupon for a future purchase and 1600ms points (both get sent to you when the game ships). Halo 4 doesn't give MS points, but the coupon gets bumped up to $25, which isn't too shabby either. Microsoft is either really in trouble and wants the business, or they're at least attempting to have a soul.
Having said that, the details of the deal and what I had in the back of my mind from the headline were miles apart. I thought MS had a really great PR/customer appreciation program planned, but it's essentially just a 1% or 2% reduction in their pricing, so long as you pony up the dough for Gold of course.
Also funny how nobody pays any attention to the fact you need Gold for this and need to pay for DLC to have any benefit at all. So what it comes down to is you are not getting a reward for your GS. But rather your Gold and DLC purchases.
Having to spend money to get a tiny bit back is not reward for having a gamerscore. It's not a reward or present at all.
Now I am not saying they should scrap this deal all together, for frequent buyers getting 2% back will amount to something in time. I am saying that having to be grateful to MS for this according to some, is unreasonable.
You are so blinkered it is frankly ridiculous.
You HAVE to compare it to PS+ quite simply because MS and Sony are clear rivals in this arm of business. I repeat what I said earlier: in business, you are only as good as your competition. And when you compare the two, it is quite embarrassing.
One can get MORE discount on a single PSN purchase due to having PS+ than a whole year of purchases through this new "rewards" scheme. That's not even beginning to mention the obvious tons of games you don't pay an extra penny for (I've had just under £800 worth this year).
So saying that PS+ shouldn't be brought up is a completely foolish thing to say. It's perfectly relevant, and frankly obvious.
Now, before you bring me down to your level, and accuse me of fanboyism, I'll repeat again that I have no allegiance to any console or platform - I own more than most people would believe - and that I already qualify for the highest tier of Xbox rewards, but the fact remains quite clear. If I'm considering buying a game on the Marketplace, how does that 2% reward stack up (considering also the imbalance of points that you usually have to buy too) compared to via PSN, where they often get discounts of 5% minimum, or possibly will end up free anyway?
So, you might not think it relevant, but I assure you any sensible person does, and I can guarantee it's extremely poignant to those at MS and Sony respectively.
Ms do some good things, but this isn't one of them, and frankly it IS insulting.
Microsoft probably wouldn't pay my mortgage either. But they should! I said they should so if they don't it shows theyre just greedy and out to keep their money!
If they don't boost the reward to 100% I'll kill myself and th blood is on their cash-greased palms.
