Command & Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight sure does look like a modern-day warrior real-time strategy game. If that wasn't apparent to you before, this walkthrough of a GDI mission will open your eyes to the fact.
Someone is clearly a fan of Dawn of War II's style of limited base-building play, although I wouldn't consider that to be a negative. The video is cut in such a way -- probably to keep the action flowing (OMG, go make some popcorn!) -- that some continuity is lost, making it a little hard to follow.
Or maybe I was just so weirded out by the creepy animal-looking automatons, I got distracted. Yeah, let's chalk it up to that second reason.
Jordan Devore is Destructoid's PC gaming manager and founding ginger editor. He is said to be easy to love but difficult to know. When Samit inquired about his curious bio photo Jordan simply replied: "bitches love sandcastles" ... yet, there is no sandcastle in that photo. We may never truly understand his ways.

Further reinforcing my belief that Starcraft 2 is the last hope for the RTS genre. This sure isnt an RTS, its a tactical squad domination deathmatch, thing.
Sigh..
This is not CnC, as said. I mean, it looks good and I will probably buy it, but I am starting to wonder if real RTS games are going to be solely the responsibility of the indies and small foreign dev studios as these larger releases focus more and more on getting casual gamers.
Also, console dominance neuters the genre (no offense console dudes).
C&C no longer interests me. I stopped paying attention after Kane came back for the third time, and although this is "supposed" to be the last game in the franchise, I just can't get behind the story or the factions or the entire plot basically. I know that a plot is not the strong point of many RTS games, but Starcraft had a pretty good one (if a little bit derivative and cliche) so why should I be forced to play a game in which you must, once more, defeat an evil old bald guy again and again and again and again.
Base building was one of the fundamentally brilliant things with the CnC series. Tactics were not just unit based. EA shat all over the series with Generals, but at least TW was good. Removing base building just because Warhammer does it is not a good thing. The only imagination I see in that trailer are the weapon animations - but shiny new weapons do not a good game make :(
Kinda sucks that the last truly awesome cnc game was Red Alert 2 back when Westwood was still making the games. The franchise seems to have gotten progressively worse over time in the hands of ea and now its like they're not even trying anymore as they seem to just be blatantly ripping off mechanics from other games in a vein hope it will lead to success.
Thank god this is the last game this team is making, I feel bad that some of them are losing their jobs but this series really needs to either die or be handed over to a different group and vastly overhauled.
Agreed with Baleur. Dawn of War 2 has a great single player experience let down only by the fact you can only play as Marines. The multiplayer however is totally rubbish. Why would Tyranids, genetic organisms (AKA the zerg) need to capture power generators? No, the multiplayer for that game is bad for many reasons, that being just one.
It seems most RTS's are trying to follow suit with War3 in an effort to stop the gigantic, 4-hour marathon battles that was, to me, one of the awesome things about the original C&C's, Starcraft and War2.
Red Alert suffers the same problem - a need to hasten the pace of the game to a point where you're penalizing the turtle races/players.
Strategy games that take lessons from the ultimate strategy game ( DOW2 ) are more interesting :-) I'm really liking the direction that a lot of RTS-series are taking under the leadership of DOW2 :-)
hmm mistic, smb :/ Either that or I am experiencing an epic sarcasm fail. Assuming I'm not, let's just set this straight. Clones are bad. Never seen Star Wars? Same principle applies to game development - we dont want a million games all virtually identical, all following the same leader. We need a free market with games moving in different directions. Basis of capitalism. Basis of the European Renaissance(s), basis of the 17th-18th Century Enlightenment etc
Yes, I am comparing game development to the Renaissance. I am that good.
Of course the series went downhill after the sad death of Westwood, but at least Tiberium Wars was pretty good. This seems far from the real C&C and the one I wanted.
People who are saying "the only RTS is starcraft II" are forgetting about Supreme Commander II coming out in March. Sure, it may not be your cup of tea, but it's definitely an RTS by any definition.
I miss the first C&C...flame soldiers/tanks and rocket instalations for defense....guard towers...steel and concrete fences...an airport for heavy tanks and artillery.Life-like ships bombarding the shores... A uber cool commando unit that kicked ass but was still human. And the map was the current world continents and Countries...I remember I had a mission in my own country - Slovenia.
Good old days..good old days.
I think I'm the only one here that's actually looking forwards to C&C4. Not as much as I've been salivating over StarCraft II, but still... I'm intrigued.
Just to add, I wouldn't even call DoW2 a RTS. The single player is a roleplaying game, and the multiplayer is a race to whomever can afford the highest tier unit first. No micro or strategy is involved whatsoever.

So... yeah.
I wish they went the Starcraft route, and didn't plague it with a billion half hearted expansions.

W2B old CC please.

I'm looking forward to more info on SupCom2... Square-Enix? 360 co-developed?
Weird.
Good old days..good old days.
