Eagles, Nirvana, Pumpkins, and free reggae pack coming to Guitar Hero this month photo

Activision is continuing its relatively solid Guitar Hero World Tour downloadable content assault this month, starting tomorrow (December 4) with three Smashing Pumpkins tracks. The previously announced track pack will include "1979," "Everlasting Gaze," and their new single, "G.L.O.W."

Also announced is a surprising set of Nirvana tracks that will be available on December 11. The band's "last single" (you know, the B-side that Courtney Love was holding onto for dear life after Kurt Cobain's death?), "You Know You're Right," will join "Negative Creep" and "Sliver."

If you were excited about the inclusion of the Eagles' rock classic "Hotel California" in World Tour, you'd better sit down. There's more Eagles on the way on December 18! "One of These Nights," "Life in the Fast Lane," and "Frail Grasp on the Big Picture" from that 93-disc album they released in 2007. (OK, it was only two discs.)

All of this stuff you'll have to pay for, and it's standard World Tour DLC pricing (info in press release after the jump ... there's just too many damned variables to list. It's all available on the Wii, 360, and PS3). But if you're looking for something free, Activision will be releasing "The Reggae Rock Track Pack," which includes Slightly Stoopid's "Jimi," and Pepper and Expendables' "Sacrifice."

We've been talking about it for over a year, so I know you guys are spending cash on Rock Band DLC. But who's been keeping up with World Tour? (I'll start: I bought "Jesse's Girl" to test out the in-game store.)

The Eagles, Nirvana, The Smashing Pumpkins And Others Set to Rock Guitar Hero(R) World Tour With Downloadable Content in December

SANTA MONICA, Calif., Dec 03, 2008 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX News Network/ --

The Smashing Pumpkins' "G.L.O.W," "1979" and "The Everlasting Gaze" Available Tomorrow

Legendary multi-platinum recording artists The Eagles, Nirvana and The Smashing Pumpkins, all featured in the on-disc set list of Activision Publishing, Inc.'s (Nasdaq: ATVI) Guitar Hero(R) World Tour, are returning in December with exclusive downloadable content for the game. Additionally, fans will be in for a treat just in time for Christmas with three free Reggae Rock tracks from Pepper, Slightly Stoopid and Expendables.

The Smashing Pumpkins, one of rock's defining and most acclaimed bands who have sold over 30 million albums, return to Guitar Hero World Tour, tomorrow December 4th, with a three-song track pack featuring the recently released single "G.L.O.W.," "1979" and "Everlasting Gaze."

Featuring the stylistic melodies of Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl, the pioneers of alternative rock, Nirvana, make their Guitar Hero(R) downloadable content debut with the Nirvana Track Pack. Featuring the final single released by the band, "You Know You're Right," along with "Negative Creep," off the band's debut album Bleach, and the smash hit "Sliver," the Nirvana Track Pack will be available for Guitar Hero World Tour on December 11th.

After delivering the timeless rock ballad "Hotel California" to the on-disc set list of Guitar Hero World Tour, The Eagles will thrill the Guitar Hero audience once again on December 18th with three chart topping hits. From the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees' seventh studio album and first in 28 years, Long Road Out of Eden, "Frail Grasp on the Big Picture" is joined by two classic tracks that climbed to the top of the Billboard's Hot 100, "One of These Nights" and "Life in the Fast Lane."

Rounding out the downloadable set list for Guitar Hero World Tour in December are three free Reggae grooves. The Reggae Rock Track Pack is comprised of "Jimi" from Slightly Stoopid, "Your Face" from Pepper and Expendables' "Sacrifice." The free tracks will be available for download on December 23rd.

The Eagles, Nirvana and Smashing Pumpkins Track Packs will be available on Xbox LIVE(R) Marketplace for the Xbox 360(R) video game and entertainment system from Microsoft for 440 Microsoft Points and on the PlayStation(R)Store for the PLAYSTATION(R)3 computer entertainment system for $5.49. The songs in each Track Pack will be released as downloadable singles for Xbox 360 for 160 Microsoft Points, PLAYSTATION 3 system for $1.99 and Nintendo(R) Wi-Fi Connection for Wii(TM) for 200 Wii Points. The Free Reggae Rock Track Pack will be available for Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION 3 and as singles for Wii.

Noooooooo! More Eagles songs coming to GH WT?! All of a sudden, I want this game...even though I had little desire to buy it before, and even though I own (and love) Rock Band 2...

I bought Blind Melon's No Rain and Death Magnetic. Yeah, the DLC releases have been solid so far but they need to try and get out more albums or larger packs. 3 songs a week just doesn't cut it.

What a horrible selection of Smashing Pumpkins songs. I don't understand this whole RB/GH need to put songs in their games that simply aren't good fits for the game. RB2 is full of shit like that *cough*Tangled Up in Blue*cough*

Hmm, decent, but still not enough to tempt me away from Rock Band 2 and spend that extra $60. The had "Tempted" by Squeeze last week, the MAIN reason I bought the GTA Vice City soundtrack. It's like Harmonix can see into my brain. Best of No Doubt pack is coming soon they say and I cannot wait! (Come on, guys, No Doubt was damn good before Gwen went all hollaback).

Stoopid and Pepper for free? Might have to give this game some renewed consideration.

I'll come back to GH once they stop over/mischarting for the sake of difficulty, and it feels like you're interacting with the music more. Oh wait, that'll probably be never.

I don't own GHWT--but if I did I would seriously entertain the thought of buying DLC for it.

Yay! The Eagles are one of my favorite rock bands of all time, and I'm pumped for them to finally get some attention from RB/GH. Will definitely be picking up their DLC pack, and the Smashing Pumpkins one too.

Oh, and the reggae one is free? Can't pass that up. :D

After having played quite a bit of GH:WT over the break, it was pretty reasonably notated in my opinion. A couple songs (Lazy Eye was the one I noticed particularly) are actually undercharted.

Activision/Neversoft still have an annoying tendency to chart parts for the guitar/bass that aren't actually done by the respective instrument in real life though. Take "Do It Again" by Steely Dan. They chart the entire ROCK ORGAN solo for GUITAR. Not particularly difficult to play, but it still bugs me. >.>

I lack the game, so I have only downloaded Metallica's Death Magnetic album (since it works in GHIII) and whatever has been free so far (in case it disappears from Live, as free Guitar Hero tracks are known to do). So with that, I'll only be downloading the free reggae pack for when I pick up the game way down the line.

Life in the Fast Lane? Yes!
One of These Nights? YES!
Frail Grasp...NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I should have known they'd fuck us by sticking in a shitty new song. They could have at least put in "How Long", then. The new album was TERRRRRRRIBLE. And I love The Eagles.

Looks like I'm just buying two of the three as single songs! I can always get 1979, too.

@ Sharpless-

How the hell are you going to LOL @ The Eagles? The Eagles LOL at YOU, son. I'll take some more Eagles over crappy indie rock bands, pop-punk or live Jimi Hendrix any day.

(Sorry all, I just don't care that much about Jimi Hendrix, although I know that's probably a crime)

I played World Tour for several hours, but eventually it just felt like I was forcing myself to do it so I quit. It just doesn't feel FUN, particularly compared to Rock Band 2. That, and it looks like ass. But it's mostly the "no fun" part that ruins it.

I love the Pumpkin's endorsement, and 1979 is all fine but...where's Zero or Mayonaise? Rebel, Smashing Pumpkins fans, rebel if you can resist the urge!
