EA : Xbox 360 is Army of Two's leading platform, but don't worry photo

EA is claiming that their upcoming game, Army of Two, will offer up an identical experience on both consoles, but I'm trying hard to suppress that uneasy feeling after learning that the Xbox 360 is the lead platform for the game. In an interview with Videogamer, assistant producer Matt Turner commented on the two versions:

"It's been led on Xbox 360 and we put it on the PS3. It's because we have more experience in that medium. The PS3 is fairly new with a lot of development stuff. But as far as the gameplay goes on both consoles it's the same. There are no differences."

Not to take anything away from the Xbox 360, but wasn't it just last week that EA told us that they learned their lesson with Burnout Paradise? I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and surmise that Army of Two was deep in development by the time they figured out that it's wiser to lead with the PS3 version if you want both platforms to have equal polish and quality. Does this mean that we can expect another so-so port on the PS3, or has EA finally come to grips with the hardware enough to cancel out the Xbox 360's advantage? Sony sure hopes so.

I just think this was in development on 360 way before they learned any lessons with Burnout. As I own only a 360 it doesn't matter much to me, but for gamers as a whole it most definitely does. Shoddy ports suck for everyone one way or another. I just hope it plays as well as I hope.

Any word on the gun customization they touted so long ago and then went abnormally silent on? That was one of the biggest draws in the game to me at the time it was first revealed. Anyone know anything or heard anything I haven't?

Meh M$'s pockets run deep. Expect a shady PS3 port.

What H3lios said!

Besides, I thought this was a 360 exclusive for the longest time! Plus, I heard this game sucked after the horrible script and terrible gameplay. It was supposed to be out already.. so we will see!

I used to be excited for this game but a few recent videos have really killed a lot of that. I hope its at least worth a rental, I'd love to have some great co-op action.

Its probably easier to port from Xbox to PC than PS3 to Xbox to PC so thats why its like that.

And I just noticed this in that picture but uh what's the point of a scope on a grenade launcher? Unless thats not a grenade launcher and instead...an alien weapon!?

They can't tell people to "not worry" when they have a shitty track record. Every game, EVERY GAME, that's been led on the 360 has shitted out on the PS3. And then, they FINALLY DECIDE TO LEAD ON PS3, and then a game comes out good (Burnout). Is EA retarded?

Its most probably not a rifle scope and more likely a range finder or something along them lines, i agree tho, nade launchers are just fire upwards and hope for the best so screw a scope for it.

I wanted this game when i first saw it but now ive gone off the whole idea. Id much rather just play the Vegas co-op missions, specially with Vegas 2 being built around co-op!

This has nothing to do with how much $$ MS or Sony has...this has to do with how bad EA sucks at developing games. Which is REALLY REALLY BAD. EA, STFU with your excuses. This game is going to be a FLOP just like every other EA game comming this year.

This wasn't a game I was especially looking forward to, would probably be a rent for me.

As far as the scope on the nade launcher is concerned its most likely a range finder/laser designator/scope. Point the laser at the target you want to hit, click button, scope gets range, accounts for wind, puts a red dot on the scope, move your crosshairs to that and fire. A lot more accurate than wildly shooting grenades, but maybe not as fun.

Also, EA = Microsoft's best friend?

If EA were scientists, they'd have screwed the world up several times over. Here's a little example off the top of the head:

EA wants to find out a suitable living enviornment for oceanic fish. You have Cesium and NaCl (salt) to mix with water. The first experiment (analogy for 360 port to PS), they put the fish in the water with Cesium. Cesium + Water = very volatile and will explode. So the fishes die.

The second experiment (analogy to PS3 port to 360), they put the fish in the water with salt. The fish lives.

EA observes this, but decides to continue going with the first experiment, with the hopes that maybe, just maybe the water won't explode (analogy to them always using 360 as lead, and the games end up crapping out, but hoping that they won't with "don't worry about it")

They better not fuck this one up, as I am interested in it but if it blows from a weak port over, screw them.

I don't think the port will be terrible. The 360 was probably the leading platform because this is a highly multiplayer-based game, and the 360 has a better multiplayer experience.

Personally, though, I don't see myself playing this game online much --- This is one of those multiplayer things that has to be experienced side-by-side with whoever's playing with you.

@KingMe: I wonder if I’m the only one here who got those analogies. Chemistry FTW!

Well, I wasn’t particularly interested in this game to begin with, but now that interest has pretty much gone down to zero. They’re claiming that the game will play the same on both consoles, and even if that’s true, the graphics probably won’t be identical, so there’ll be a trump card for 360 owners anyway. Hopefully, going forward, EA can lead development with the PS3 version.

@Qwerty

You're way off base with your estimate.

While Sony is a consumer electronics/movie/music juggernaut they do NOT have more money than Microsoft or even annual revenue.

At one estimate almost 95% of the world's computers ran on windows based architecture. Microsoft has a firm hold on the IT/OS/Electronic Media/Web marketplace.

Just take a look at their recent bid (though currently rejected) to acquire Yahoo to the tune of around 45 Billion dollars.

i'm done with ea games as a general. they won't fix skate nor will till the next skate. i don't see them fixing any problems that arise in army of two(mic issues,p2p servers, none dedicated, but madden can get a fncking roster update whenever there is one) i'm just done fed up with the constant buying of smaller companys and not a focus on the consumer who pays their pills.and i really wanted this game last february when i saw a good gameplay video(A YEAR AGO!) and then the news of sh!tty ports, ea's lazy dev team and the blaming of a system they learned about but didn't implement the common sense the learned and heard from other developers, the whole monopolizing of the nfl really made mf sad a couple years ago so people no longer had a decision to make about a licenced product. what's next?nba?mlb?nhl?cfl?pga?little league?ncaa?i'm just done with ea.

Ah sir, you must not group all of EA's offerings as being on the same level or being developed by the same people. If I remember correctly, Burnout is made by Criterion (UK), an EA owned studio but still only a satellite company. Whereas Army of Two is made in Montreal by the EA studio itself, and from what I know of them they are fully capable of developing a competent PS3 version of any game.

EA has not proven themselves to be competent with 360 to PS3 ports, so there is every reason to worry. Guy should have lied and said that they were doing separate developments. Wouldn't have cost him the pre-order cancellations that are sure to occur now.
