EA will not be banning people from games because of message board conduct photo

Yesterday, we ran a rumor about the possibility of EA message board bans leading to in-game bans. According to the same person who started the rumor, Command & Conquer community manager Aaron Kaufman, this isn’t true. In a recent topic started by Kaufman in the C&C section of the boards, he admitted that he misspoke and that no action other than a message board ban will be given to unruly members.

From the posting:

If we suspend or ban you from the forums, that does not affect your in-game account and certainly it does not impact your in-game account for other games. Quite often we usually warn you before taking any type of action, suspend you before considering any type of ban, etc...
There is certainly reassuring news. I would like to think I live in a world where posting up an animated picture of a phallic object would only net me ostracism from the community instead of every publisher related game I own. Despite the fact that EA is doing the right thing in this scenario, one should still consider how much control EA has over their users with these Master EA accounts that are tied to online game access.

OK, so this is twice now a high level community member/mod "misspeaking" on the forums and causing an uproar. Maybe they should sit these people down to make sure they understand what's really happening, and what NOT to say.

"Let's get away with whatever we can."

"Another public backlash, sir!"

"Sh*t!! Back-pedal! Now!"

Maybe, they were testing the waters; but since there is such a large concentration of trolls on the internet, the cry for banning was absent...or something.

Or maybe, somebody called that guy a bad name on the innernet, and he wanted to do something about it.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?

Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
