I mean, I've always disliked it, like that part where they are able to invade my privacy even though I don't even have a damn facebook account, but I didn't know there were more people who thought that way.
Anyways, I'm in agreement that EA deserved this, despite not committing crimes in the same league as those other companies. This feels like more of a popularity contest anyways, and not really meant to be taken seriously. If anything, maybe it'll wake 'em up (one can dream).
And to those who say EA didn't ruin any lives with their practices, well, most Bioware fans CLEARLY feel differently. And Bioware fans have demonstrated over the past few months that they know better than the rest of us.
Check out the comments of any past years' winners too, you'll still find people doing that. Last year some people were pissed BP won despite not being an American company. There are people that don't understand how to have fun on every site. It seems a lot of people are butthurt that a company they don't know won.
The fact that anyone, here or elsewhere, is trying to have a serious conversation about the merits of an award that hands out metallic poo trophies is more ridiculous than EA winning. It's a contest that's meant to be fun, nothing more. It's not a quantitative measure of true evil, it's a measure of "who do we want to pick on the most". Nothing more.
I think gamers should read the comments there though, and understand why we are still seen as "who gives a fuck" consumers. The fact that a contest meant to be fun for people who follow consumer issues was won by a company in an industry that they rarely pay any mind to is pissing a bunch of people off should be gratifying as fuck. How dare a gaming company beat perennial juggernauts Comcast and Best Buy to take it to BofA! Gaming isn't even for adults, I demand a recount!
That's the part we should be pissed about.
It was an organized endeavor, on the part of gamers, to game a poll on a website devoted to pointing out REAL offenses by REAL problem corporations. That's the problem. Look at the people responding. Half those people don't even know who the fuck Electronic Arts is. They're there because they have legitimate concerns about REAL problems, and a bunch of OMG WHINY GAMERS take it upon themselves to fabricate a result of an online poll to advance an agenda.
That's just fucking shameful, dude, and I speak up about it because as a gamer myself, I want to be sure to distance myself from that attitude. Far from generalizing, as you suggested I was doing, I'm carefully drawing a distinction.
@Janklogs: Just a poll, yes it is. What infuriates me is what it says about the fucking idiots I share this planet with and my children interact with. What it says about peoples priorities and how disconnected from reality some of us are.
I'm not saying that the enthusiast press is bought and paid for but rather that because of their relationship with publishers and the utter abundance of freebies they are wholly out of touch with what paying customers actually go through.
Empathy is all well and good but it's no substitute for actually paying for shit with your own damn money.
would be nice
By the way, EA has just done free advertising to Valve, warning us that they`ve won the Escapist`s "Best Game Developer of 2012" over Bioware...
There, we got that out of the way. I can go now.
Yeah, it's totally understandable. Even the name of the contest itself is tongue in cheek, but I agree that it would be hard for non-fans of the site to discern just how serious they're trying to be. You'd be surprised how seriously many people over there take the Golden Poo despite it being a shining dogbomb.
The whole thing is mostly satire, and fairly clever satire if you ask me. The best part is when companies respond to it without realizing they're in what is essentially The Onion meets the Oscars.
Also lol @ the derping outrage this seems to be causing some.
Yes. This. Everyelse aside, this.
Double lol'd for all the people pissed off that it wasn't some other company that won the golden turd..... likely the same people who told the ones who were pissed about the ME3 ending to shut it because its just a stupid game..... So to them I say, this is just a stupid gold colored plastic turd, get over it.
See how being dismissive works both ways :P
Worst company in AMERICA? Hardly, this is another case of gamers just getting way too god damn pent up with nerd rage and venting it in the worst way possible.
BofA concocts plans to rig global interest rates. It bankrupts their clients by lying to them about the quality of their derivative packages (helped by the wonderful credit ratings agencies). It takes out insurance on these products, knowing full well they're full of shit, and it then bankrupts the insurers as well. They foreclose and ransack homes illegally that shouldn't be foreclosed upon. They hassle and intimidate people for their debts, even after they've filed for bankruptcy or have even paid the debts off already. They even try to find ways to take out fees on people's unemployment checks.
But because EA charges $10 to let you play your games online, it is surely the viceroy of all that is wrong and unjust -- the magnate of misery, fueled by the tears of battered wives and stillborn children.
It's ironic that Matt Taibbi just came out today with a very long article on just how BofA "are some of the very biggest assholes on Earth."

I think you should take your own advice... because I have no idea what you're implying here. Publishers generally rush games out before they are done, because they care about money moreso, whereas devs care about the quality of their game.
Exposure, mockery and humiliation, however, often prove to be more effective.
And even if it were a random sampling of people, a hypothetical company that called a half a million people stupid would "win" this award over a different hypothetical company that murdered ten people. Just because more people think the company is bad doesn't mean said company is the worst.
World Wide I would have to say within gaming Ubisoft as being worse.
World Wide I would have to say within gaming Ubisoft as being worse.
World Wide I would have to say within gaming Ubisoft as being worse.
oh, and anyone who thinks all EA has done is day one dlc and DRM is pretty fucking stupid
From a consumer stand point, which is what this poll is all about, they are a terrible company. Yes, this is a company that deals in the sale of luxury goods but ,as EA themselves stated, they effect more than 300 million consumers a year. Banks are going to be banks, and nothing some silly internet poll says will change anything. EA on the other hand has been following this with very watchful eyes. They had a canned response ready in the event they lost. Almost every other winner of the golden poo completely ignored it.
Plus their killing of megaman and his games is just wrong.
