EA to sell Crysis Warhead branded computers

Here’s a bit of news that’s been filed into the “things I wouldn’t expect EA to do until I remembered its EA” folder. According to a rep at the EA Comic-Con booth, the monolithic publisher has now decided to move into the pre-built PC market. This is going to be based around the release of the upcoming “look at me I’m so pretty” PC shooter Crysis Warhead.

It looks like EA is trying to attract gamers that might not know very much about PC components by offering systems that are guaranteed to run Crysis Warhead at each level of graphical detail. There’s no word on whether or not this will be a one time promotion, but seeing as this is EA we’re talking about I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if they started doing this for every single PC game they publish.

And if you already have a decent system that’s running Windows XP Crytek has announced that you won’t be missing out on anything just because you aren’t using DirectX 10. “The former "very high” settings are now called "enthusiast” and this option is now available for DX9, too,” stated Warhead producer Bernd Diemer. “We removed this exclusiveness and thought: If people want to run this on their system, why should we restrict it?”

That thing looks like a refrigerator. That being said, it will most likely cost as much as pre-built "gaming PCs".

EA hardware? If it's anywhere near as trustworthy as their software, LOL.

Honestly, while this is an obvious scam, there's some good here. I'd actually like to see game developers step up their involvement in hardware development. If PC game developers threw their weight around a little bit more, then maybe casual/semi-casual consumers would be able to figure out what to get for their needs. If that happened, then PC gaming would be in a lot better shape.

$4000?

My computer was bought from Futurshop about 3 years ago and all I did was throw in a 8800 GTS card and a new power supply and I can play Crysis on all Med setting @ about 30-35FPs.

I spent like $1200 in total.

Unless this is cheap I see them raping consumers.

Although that's still a high price given the specs you run it at, that's good for an older computer. I spent about 800 bucks or so on my computer (about 6-8 months ago), and it runs Crysis fine. All Very High or High graphics settings. I can run all highest at the highest resolution, but water really kills my framerate.

Or you could build your own for 1/3 the cost

"Or you could build your own for 1/3 the cost"

Most likely true. However, EA would be shooting itself in the foot here. They should be trying to expand the PC gaming community in order to sell more copies rather than making a quick buck in a field they don't have any history with at all. Meh.. c'est la vie.

So who will be buying the "The Sims 2: Teen Style Stuff" PC?

They can't do worse than Dell at it, honestly, since that's physically impossible. I'm sure it'll still be way overpriced but there's a small but appreciable chance it'll be LESS of a ripoff and won't have near as much spam and spyware prepackaged with the machine.

I read: "Crysis didn't sell enough copies because nobody could run it."
