EA to acquire iPhone dev Firemint photo

You know the name Firemint from two of the finest iPhone franchises available, Flight Control and Real Racing. I've always liked Firemint. While lots of companies out there are making little $0.99 disposable turds, these guys are working hard to craft polished games that would be equally at home on your PC or game consoles.

EA announced today that they plan to acquire the Melbourne-based company, with the deal closing within the next four weeks. A press release says that this brings "an attractive future slate of games" to EAi.

This deal follows the EA's recent acquisition of Mobile Post Production (MPP), a company that works on porting games to smartphones. It looks like EA is becoming quite serious about being a leader in the mobile games space.

@Xzy: How rude.

@Article: I hope real racing isn't whored out. But I look forward to see what they can do with more monies backing them.

No, no no no no no no NO. Leave Firemint alone, EA. Those are top-quality indie-ish developers and you are just going to ruin them.

Once again Capitalism is reminding me of what I hate it. Free market my ass, more like "market for the already rich".

EAs games for android are HORRIBLE. Shoddy/buggy programming, and an extra layer of craptacular DRM. If EA wants to make mobile games, then they need to hire some decent developers.

EA already has Aussie devs working on their ports and mobile games, so don't stress about firemint being enslaved to make shitty ports and then cast aside.

This is actually great news for Firemint as well as Infinite Interactive (Puzzle Quest) who FM acquired not too long ago. If it's one thing Aussie devs need it's to not have to stress about where the next contract is coming from.
