EA teases bringing back SSX

EA teases bringing back SSX photo

During my time here, there has always been one game that seems to be met with universal praise whenever it gets mentioned, and it's a game you might not immediately think of: SSX Tricky. When the conversation turns to that of snowboarding videogames, everyone always gushes their love for Tricky (and also SSX 3).

Talking to gamesindustry.biz, EA Montreal general manger Alain Tascan utters the words we've been waiting for: "Ah, SSX. We have a big catalog and we were talking about what people like. I think this is something we will look at in the future to see if it makes sense to revive the franchise."

"It's a little bit early to talk about it, but I feel ... I know internally it is a franchise that people love because it was successful and good, and it reminds me of when we were young, and I feel if the market is there and is ready for a new one then we'll consider it," Tascan continues.

Please, for the love of all things holy, EA, if you aren't going to release a new SSX title, at least bring a high-def, online SSX Tricky to PlayStation Network and Xbox LIVE Arcade. Do it for the dying orphans, alright?

SSX Tricky on XBLA would melt my face off. Day one purchase for sure.

Tricky was the shit! That's the guy that spins the board around his neck like a helicopter. Forgot his name, but I wouldn't mind seeing another SSX.

Psymon Stark is the shit. Tricky was cool, but love SSX 3. One of the only games that I think adding a create a character was a bad idea, since I enjoyed the default characters so much.

I want a new (good) SSX so bad. SSX3 was near perfect, and World Tour was such a huuuge step back in so many ways. The organic flow of SSX3 was abandoned for the schizophrenic layout of Tour, and made zero sense. In a misguided attempt at making the user feel like a part of the world, the pref-fab toons were abandoned, but the fleshed out personalities and in-game rivalries (and the radio station) of SSX3 did far more to make the world seem alive and fluid.

Pleeeeeeeeeeeease revist this franchise. But do it right.

Oh god oh god oh god SSX 3 is my favorite game. I am SO glad there's hope for a sequel, and I trust that EA will take the games in a new direction (read: not making my beloved riders look like characters from the McDonald's franchise).

Also,
FREEEENCH TOAST AND SYRUUUUUUUUUUP!

Fuck Tricky, bring SSX 3 online (again). That was a perfect snowboarding game.

End. Of. Discussion.

Tricky was straight, but SSX3 was the holyshitmotherfuckingjam, man. Go back to that idea, just expand on that. Literally.

Tricky and SSX 3 were so well liked and played in my household that I have a 6 year old daughter that when she does something "cool" she says, "UBER-TRICK!"

They really do need to make SSX 5 now. (Call it SSX 4 and lets pretend on tour and Blur for the Wii didn't happen.)

Appearance-wise, if it's more like SSX: On Tour and SSX Tricky and less like SSX Blur, then I'm all for it.

Tricky sucks balls compared to SSX3. That's just how good SSX3 was, not how bad tricky was.

SSX 3: The only snowboarding game where you could literally snowboard down the entire mountain. It took about half an hour. I used to do this on GameCube when I was being an angsty teenager. Calmed me down so much.

No...no no no...don't even play like that EA. Don't fucking say it unless you're gonna do it. I've played waaaaaaay too much of SSX3 for you to screw me over with such a cocktease like that!!!

Also, IF this does happen, and you make it more like SSX3 then the others in the series, I will:

A) Love you forever
B) Buy every other sports game that comes out that year that you make
C) Buy every SSX game I don't already own (So, yes, I will finally pick up Blur and re-buy On Tour)
D) Name my child Psymon and get a tattoo of the Uber-meter going down my spine

I thought i'd have to defend SSX 3 as it the highest point of the series, but I see that everyone else seems to know that. Also, the SSX3 soundtrack was absolutely incredible! How could you dislike it Mr. Sadistic?

I like a few songs off the third game, but they ruined some of my favorites with horrible remixes. Damn Unkle and their sub-par remixes. That and I hated the fact the music kept fading in and out if you sucked really bad or kept hitting obstacles. The game itself was pretty spiffy though.

I never got to play Tricky or 3 but I DO know I loved the original. Shit was awesome and made me really actually have a reason to like some bit of EA. (well...EA Big at least.)

maybe i'll go pick up tricky and 3 so I can catch up and praise it as much as I praise the first game.

and for goodness sakes while we're at it, lets see some NBA Street Vol.2 ported! I actually enjoyed the original and Vol.2 considering the other "street" style games suck outside those 2.

I personally preferred SSX Tricky over SSX 3. Don't get me wrong, SSX 3 was good. But it just felt more like a traditional snowboarding game to me (which wasn't why I played SSX). It didn't have that fun over the top feel that Tricky had. And the new characters feeling slightly generic didn't help. Plus the soundtrack to SSX 3 was bleh. It suited more to a specific taste in music instead of something more general like Tricky. I grew tired of listening to the same damn 8 songs that I didn't even like and could only barely tolerate throughout my entire course of the game. But yaaaaaaaaaa. To each their own. EA NEEDS to bring back SSX.

SSX3 had some good tunes in there - and some not-so-good-ones, to boot. I liked Tricky, but the AI was evil - motherfuckers cheat at the end of the game. I will lead by a full minute and be overtaken at the finish line for the last 1st place medal, they'd just teleport right behind me at 400 miles an hour.

Which board let you bend space and time? I don't fucking know.

3 was a little more fair, plus the Platinum medals meant you had to know what the hell you were doing. The mountain run was too damn sick, every other SSX game previous and after must bow down to that design call - and I played them all. #3 had it right, if only it could mix your own soundtrack from songs from your own iPod or something...then that would be the shit. For real.

I'd rock Wu-Tang, Atmosphere, Datarock, Daft Punk, Slipknot, Rush, Zep and many, many more...nothing better than making your own musical call down the side of a mountain at 80+ mph.

In my house she prefers Tricky and I prefer SSX3. If a new game is on the way, and doesn't suck like tour (REALLY? SKIS? REALLY???) we'll be gravy, baby.

DO IT!

SSX 3 is my favorite thing on disc that I always forget exist. I remember waiting to hear about a sequel when the new consoles were announced and after a while just giving up hope.

Between Skate and this EA is reviving my tween love of extreme sport game.

I wish I had a copy of SSX3 that played on everything i own, at a whim.

Really love that game, what it did with music, how it put together the mountain, the characters, the controls, the ridiculous upgrades and the glut of PERSONALITY AND CHARM packed into that game.

Blur, though technically sound, has absolutely 0 personality by comparison. Its jarring.

I swear to fucking god EA, if you are just fucking with me and you do not provide me with a brand new SSX game eventually then I will find someone who works for you, and I will punch them in the face. I don't care if it's the CEO, or an intern. I will kick their ass.

One of the things that the SSX series does, that no other snowboarding series does, is FIREWORKS!!! There's just something about making a jump and those colorful fireworks exploding around you. I hope they never get rid of fireworks from SSX.

Don't mess with me EA! SSX Blur was a peice of crap, but an HD SSX TRicky or 3 would make all forgiven.

Hell, just make a new SSX game that doesn't fail like Blur and On Tour.

SSX 3 was such a good game, they could replace some of the textures (exchange show for moon dust and call it "Space Tour") and would play the game all over again. Hell, I think I might just do that anyway, I'm so excited. I still quote Nate from time to time, but that may have more to do with what's wrong with my head than how great SSX 3 is.

I really don't get why SSX 3 is lauded more than Tricky--keeping a trick streak going in the transition areas were nigh impossible. There's very little area in Tricky where you can't pull off some kind of maneuver.

The voice acting was superior (using brand-name celebs and introducing me to Bif Naked for the first time ever), the music was dope, the characters were dynamic as there ever has been, and the level design had so many hidden/alternate paths it was impossible not to love. The behind the scenes for all the characters and their voices, the music, the design, and everything else was icing on the cake.

I'd buy it again for $10 on PSN--especially since it won't work well on my BC PS3--thing freezes up after only a few minutes play. This holds true for many EA games I have from the PS2 library. Tricky for me is the pinnacle of snowboarding gaming.
