EA Sports Active 2.0 coming to PS3, snubs Xbox 360 photo

Well, the console wars are officially over. Electronic Arts has announced that cynical "me too" fitness game, EA Sports Active 2.0, is coming to multiple platforms, but will skip the Xbox 360 for some reason. The Wii, PS3, and even iPhone are getting a version, but Microsoft has been left in the cold.

The PS3 version looks like it'll be the best, since EA has also revealed that players will get to download new workouts via the PSN. This news comes after EA announced that PGA Tour 11 would support Sony's motion controller but wasn't being planned for Natal. Mayhaps it's a case of EA being more familiar with the PS3's new controller than Project Natal? Who knows?

In any case, it would appear that EA isn't supporting Natal right now. Microsoft will want to look into that.

At least EA can see that natal is a bag of assmunchingarmwavingcrapwankery.

Surely if natal is any good this is the perfect type of app for such amazing tech /sarcasm.

I won't buy it anyway, but really expected some natal support here.

Who didn't see this coming? The moment there's a motion control system announced about 3-4 fitness games will be put out for it.

If you're implying that you're not going to be waving your arms like an idiot with the "Arc" you're in for a shocking realization.

I can't wait to be here this time next year, watching you come up with another excuse for Sony's poor implementation of the motion controller in games.

I'd be amazed if this doesn't come to the 360 and support Natal. MS probably just doens't want it announced yet for some reason.

With Natal you'll be able to flail around like a spastic in a Christmas tree to get fit.

What more do you want?

I'm sure that the issue here is development cost and EA's lack of familiarity with Natal, nothing more.

I lul'd.

I agree I think if this is coming to Natal MS is asking publishers and devs to stay quiet. They've been very tightlipped about Natal. Presumably because they want to try and use it to get some serious E3 coverage. It's hard to get much steam showcasing the same hardware at 2 E3s (in a row no less) so I'm assuming they're trying to hold back as hard as they can before E3.

I'm pretty sure that the concepts behind the "arc" and wiimote are similar so that porting only requires slight changes in code. Natal is a bit of a different beast for simple ports.

Haha, I thought the same thing. Seriously though, this is exactly why I didn't want to see motion controls on the PS3. Natal just went up a notch in my book.

@Dreamscape - I'm looking forward to the "sub-pixel accuracy" shown off in the tech demos and the 1:1 control, we can leave the butterfly catching and ball kicking to natal. Also, I'll be waving an Arc around, less waving, more moving like a sword/gun/bow and arrow at 1:1.

@Astalano - Taking a well known, market proven motion control system and improving upon it is poor implementation, is it?

ROFL, now sexualchocolates hyping Arc? If you don't think there's going to be some form of this for Natal, you're in for a rude awakening come E3 when MS finally unveils launch line-up.

This is almost too good to be true.

It's a good thing MS didn't decide to go with Arc and Sony with Natal, otherwise Sexualchocolate would have totally bought a 360 and sold his PS3.

Yep, he's THAT excited for Arc.

I love how sexual chocolate attempts to assasinate natal at every chance and yet arc is looking more and more like a wii rip off as the days go by.

Yo, sexual chocolate! Didn't you say not too long ago that all natal would be was crappy sports/fitness sims? Your preferenece change so rapidly when Sony rolls out it's bullshit!

I never say this so this is a first for me but.....I loled.

Maybe EA is just working on Natal-specific projects that won't be announced until E3 or maybe later.

We'll likely see a lot of Wii ports on the PS3 Arc , or whatever they call it, and we'll see a lot of third party PS3 Arc ports on the Wii. Third-parties want to maximize their investments afterall.

The Natal being so different would likely miss out, but the PS3 seems to have become the console that bridges the motion-Wii gap and HD game gap.

Sony going with a more conventional approach may play to it's benefit in the motion controller game space.

@mrandydixon

It's by no means why we bought PS3's, but it's just another nice addition to the whole "everything" that it does.

The Wii had some really great game ideas, with a lot of potential spoiled by the early waggle controls and the general lack of power from the Wii. i'm really looking forward to playing some of the flopped wii games on my PS3.

I wouldn't say i'm "excited" for Arc, I'm hopeful, and confident that it'll make a fun addition to my gaming set up.

@Bakewell - One man's Wii ripoff is for another man taking the (extremely successful) wii to the next level.

I would love to see Natal work the way it should. That would put us two steps from the Holodeck, however if EA isn't supporting the hardware (I believe they invented shit-on-a-stick, too see how far comsumers would go) and then there was that other dev. making games where you were fingers doing kungfu (can't remember anything else about it.) because they couldn't get the natal to correctly and consistantly pick up the movements.
I think MS bit off more than they could chew, but the hype machine has been running pretty strong, and even non gamers are talking about it, so you know it's going to sell. That doesn't mean that it will do anything that they showed at E3, but hype will move it along, and then after it fails to be the second coming of Christ. we will begin to hear about the next xbox by E3 2011.

In my opinion

Completely avoiding the fanboy topic, Active isn't a "me too" fitness game. Wii fit's focus is on yoga, while Active is a more get up and move exercise program with jumps, squats, lunges and the like. Its actually really good and is more like having a personal trainer in how it varies your exercises.

I say who ever gets Nike+ implementation first wins the exer-gaming war. Seriously, it'd be a much better way to get aerobic exercises recorded as I doubt people will try "jogging on the spot" more than twice.

Actually a Natal-developed exercise game would be pretty good if it was able to tell you how your form is. I know with WiiFit I'll catch myself "cheating" or doing it wrong at times. I may get a higher "score" but it really help my fitness.

Am I the only person who doesn't think the 360 has been snubbed at all? Instead they will getting a version that doesn't require all these armbands etc... and instead will soley use natal I reckon they won't unveil it till E3 though for maximum exposure.

I think the only reason EA is skipping Natal on these games is because Natal isnt as far as some think and they expect the Arc to be out sooner?

Either way I dont really care Cause unless theres something mindblowing coming up i prefer traditional controls

I only hope this waggling games stay kind of niche for the two HD plattforms. Look at the wii.
Do you really want your favorite wasting-time-machine such a shovel-tastic sucess that the majority of games that will be developed in the future are only focused on the cassual audience?
