EA scraps Dead Space 2 Wii, Simpsons games photo

Electronic Arts had a Wii port of Dead Space 2 game planned, along with a follow up to the utterly awful The Simpsons Game. Both titles have been scrapped in favor of other projects. I'm no analyst, but I'm willing to bet that nothing of value was lost.

The news comes via the LinkedIn profiles of EA designer Gerry Sakkas and freelance developer Matt Spriggens, who list the cancelled games among their work.

Seriously, is anybody upset over this? Show of hands, please.

I'm callin BS on the Dead Space 2 Wii port. It probably would've been dumbed down to an on-rails affair. Fuck you EA!

I don't blame them. Everyone owns a wii, but no one ever buys games for it.

Dead Space 2 on the Wii? That would have been awesome really, too bad it got scrapped. They probably decided to port it to the 3DS instead.

Oh, and even with all it's many shortcomings, I still found the Simpsons Game to be pretty funny, and co-op with my little sister was fun.

I have 2 Wii's and enjoy playing games with them. But I am with you Jim...I could less about these titles...and I didn't even know they were being considered. That radar blip just vanished!

If it was ACTUAL Dead Space 2, would have been interesting playing it by actually aiming, making the action more frantic at the end parts definitely but otherwise DS2 for wii will not be missed in anyway, it would have probably had alot of downgrades

DS2 on the Wii existed? The first one wasn't even on the Wii (and probably couldn't fit on there), so why?

...You know, I loved Dead Space 2 so much, I might have gotten a wii version just to have another excuse to play it one more time. Okay, I wouldn't actually buy a wii port, but it's tempting.

I have the Simpson's game sitting on my shelf unopened, I suppose I'll try it out one of these days.

I would rather see a new Dead Space game for the 3DS, so hopefully that's part of the other projects that they moved on to, but its probably not happening either. The first one on the Wii was really good though, for what it was. So if they could do a proper one, that wasn't on-rails, it could of a been really good too.

I assume that Eurocom would of been working on it, since they did the last one and they just wrapped up Golden Eye on the Wii. So they know how to make good games on the Wii. Its certain not a huge lose, but it would of been cool to see how a proper dead space would work on the Wii. RE:4 was awesome, so this probably would of been just as good!

Knowing EA, it would look like a MySims game and play like Carnival Games.

I don't know where else they could have gone with The Simpsons Game, but it wasn't awful. A nice little rental, anyway.

A 3DS Dead Space would be sweet. I'd even settle for a NGP one, anything for a good mobile DS. I know there's an iphone game, but seriously, I want a meaty portable experience.

Judging from EA's track record when it comes to the Wii version of games (see e.g. Hot Pursuit or the shockingly bad Sims 3), I'd say DS2 probably would've been abysmal.

I think it's funny that there's people here hoping for a DS game on the 3DS. I don't see that happening. EA seems to have quite a problem with Nintendo platforms, even publicly accusing Nintendo of not supporting them. They seem to bet on the iPad/iPhone, not the 3DS.

Dead Space was originally xbox title and looked really good running on that system so it wasn't that hard to make it work on a wii especially since it is much more powerful system than first xbox hardware wise.

I would have preferred an original title in the Dead Space universe on the wii. Like Extraction was when the original Dead Space came out. It was actually pretty good for a rail shooter.

Would the Wii even be able to run Dead Space2?

Even though The Simpsons was a really.....I don't know...basic?simple? game I still found it amusing and probably would have picked up the planned sequel when it found its way to the bargain bin.

Well I not surprised by the fact they scrapped Dead Space 2 for the wii. Mainly because no one on the wii has been given the oppurtunity to play the first one.

As much as I see why some people enjoy on rail shoorters I enjoy RE4 on my wii, and I did not bother pickong up Dead Space Exstraction wii because it really had no depth to the game and it cost $50. Do you know what I have bought with $50? The orange box and SC2 both have a large amount of types of games you can plan and pleanty of hours packed with fun gameplay.

so yeah they did not loose much, but they could have made much much more......dam EA

RIP westwood

I liked Dead Space 2 a lot, but the Wii's lack of power would take away from the atmosphere. However, I think RE4 was best on the wii due to the controls, and it would be nice to have playstation move support on the PS3 version.

I know I'm pissed. There are too few third-person shooter/survival horror games on Wii as it is, so the system can use all it can get. I wish someone would stop being fucking lazy and make a good game that can compete with Resident Evil 4 control-wise.

as a Wii only owner I would have been interested in this too.. as long as it offered more freedom than extraction did. Hell, if it was an RE4 style game there's a good chance I would have bought it as long as it didn't suck.

I thought extraction was great on atmosphere and offered some cool ideas such as freezing enemies and slowly picking them apart - seriously, that alone was a fine evolution of the tense, old-school, slow zombies in your face gameplay of RE.

What I didn't like so much was the small amount of content available... a meatier (not on rails) sequel would have been much appreciated.

You know I'm not surprised, not so much because DS2 would be dumbed down on the Wii or that the Simpsons game wasn't good (which I can't comment on because I didn't play it, just taking Jim's word on it) but because the Wii overall is getting the brush off all around now, even from Nintendo.

Now I know Nintendo's intent lately has been that they needed the resources and man power to go towards the 3DS launch, and now that thats over with they're probably gearing up for the next phase of their 2011 plan, which probably includes something big for the conventions this summer, but other sites (well one, Kotaku) seem intent on implying that Nintendo's killing the system all together by not releasing any games for it in the month of may let alone releasing many games at all in that month (they've got 4 games being released that month, which doesn't sound bad considering the huge launch they just did, let alone the crap the their entire hope country is having to face).

Personally I'm waiting to pass judgment on that overeager theory sometime in June, when either Nintendo picks up the pace again or announces something big at E3.

I'm not certain why they'd want to port Dead Space 2 to the Wii. I own a Wii, I think it's a horribly underrated console among gamers, but I'd rather a sequel to Extraction, or maybe an upgraded version of the Dead Space iOS game with better controls. Gotta play to the hardware's strengths.
