Why is this so hard to believe? This is the same Microsoft that dropped the Xbox after only 4 years and spent half a billion in Kinect marketing. Being eccentric, compulsive money grubbing fools is their MO.

Give me one hundred percent backwards compatibility with 360 and the ability to easily transfer all my dlc/saves/ xbla, basically all my hard earned hdd contents, and they've got a day one sale from me, at whatever ridiculous price they launch at. That's why cafe has got me.

I'd expect it to be a rumour, to be honest. Cost-heat-consumption/performance curve hasn't been that great as of late when it comes to GPUs. Not to say I believe we're kind of leveling hardware reality, but until there's some really significant change in architecture that's not solely size-based comes, I'd say they would be better off waiting. A 10% increase in GPU perfomance increases consumption, heat and risks bottlenecking. That means a better font, better cooling system and possibly a better CPU, memory or both, in order to keep the console as closed a box as possible, operating in max cost efficiency. It may take a while until they can show up something that really steps up whatever Project Cafe will be and that doesn't bleed them dry. This generation has been a bit tough on Microsoft and Sony, and leaving lucrative consoles behind in order to bleed more money wouldn't look that good for shareholders.

first of all it is the rumor from anonymous source not related to MS or EA in any form as was revealed(dunno why you wrote that it's EA guy, Jim) so basically it could be anyone.
if i said that next Sony home console will be in the shape of a toilet and will be controlled by your own butt would you write a news about it? cause that's the exact same thing - some random guy who have nothing to do with EA and MS send an email to some gaming website.
second, 360 is still way too popular, is selling way too good and is earning way too much for MS to be making next console.

Microsoft R&D team needs to work on a better console constantly. To include a top 3 publisher in these conversations seems inevitable.

@ Niero -- Agreed. EA and other major publisher's are well aware of what Microsoft is planning for the next generation. My hunch is that this was a planned leak to steal a little of that Nintendo thunder, and remind us that Microsoft has something up their sleeve. It's dead obvious, I know, but putting it out there in the news has a different effect than us just speculating. It's just tangible enough to whet appetites, and stir the imaginations, without having to give away anything specific.
