EA responds to Left 4 Dead 2 Australia ban with ownage photo

Australia failed to shock the world recently by refusing to classify Left 4 Dead 2, making it the latest game to be banned by the country's pathetic rating system. Publisher Electronic Arts has responded to the OFLC's decision, offering quite the verbal bitchslap to the game-banning country.

"It's funny that a place like Australia, which has come up with some pretty violent material in the past with something like Mad Max, can effectively ban videogames for the same reason," snarks European communications director Tiffany Steckler. "EA believes that adults should have the right to make their own choices when it comes to the content they consume."

EA is yet to confirm whether or not the game will be edited in order to earn the 15+ certificate the represents the highest age rating Australia can offer. Either way, Australia's behavior is pitiful and something really has to change.

Hopefully the cobweb-covered old suits in charge of Australia will die soon so that a newer, less out-of-touch generation of politicians can take over and make some much-needed improvements.

I'm so glad I live in America where L4D2 will most definitely thrive.

I'd prefer to live in Australia than in the US, it's just a pity that the video game laws are idiotic and more so the people in charge with them...

either way better government support for the people, and a beautiful country

Pwnage? I think not. Steckler's "snark" is a shitshow of faulty logic. WTF "reason" is she talking about? Mad Max's production and the banning of L4D2 were made for opposite reasons, if anything. And she's phrasing it like Mad Max and the decision to ban this game were made by the same people. Epic authoritative snark fail.

Tarvu is right.

I think its time for the world to go to war over L4D2. Australia is the new Germany and Germany is the Japan.

Aussies will find a way to get it anyway. Just sad that they have to jump through all these hoops to get it.

Kinda been wondering, can the aussie gov't even regulate digital distribution; frankly i'm wondering if aussies would still be able to get the game off of steam

It's a shame that the Aussies are going to miss another awesome game because their ancient leaders haven't died yet. Let's just invade Australia and put Jim in charge. And lets hope that Germany doesn't know because they are the next on the list of countries we must save from digital oppression.

If it's banned it won't be sold in stores, but can it still be downloaded through Steam from a computer in Australia?

Make shootable Kangaroos, just to mock Australia.

PS: I know Australia isn't all about kangaroos and koalas but shooting them would be a nice way of owning the Australian government.

I'm in favor of this, criminals shouldn't even have video games and everyone knows all Australians are criminals. I wouldn't worry about them getting to play it, I'm sure someone will trade them the game for a couple packs of Kool menthols.

If it's banned here, it won't be sold in stores, it won't be sold on Steam and there will be no proper dedicated servers for console or PC... and fuck playing it through by myself.

Australia and Germany could get together and do the nasty, and we'd have a new Soviet Union.

It might be something as simple as green blood, removing the link to humans. Oddly enough, Carmageddon was banned in Australia until they replaced them with zombies.

Oh my mistake, I mean rabies infested living humans.

In Australia Kangaroos are considered pests and we cull them by way of gun. It's legal. And on top of that, we get to buy their meat in our grocery shops.

I hope EA doesn't cut down the rating and leave the work to the Aussies to get this "ban" sorted out. Don't you guys have an organization that stands up for video games against this crap? Come on, spread the knowledge around.

We should still be able to get the game off steam but we'll see. It's simply that we don't currently have an R rating for video games and until the stigma that 'video games are for children' goes away i doubt we'll get one. It's not that our country is oppressive, far from it, its simply a couple of closed minded higher ups that still cling to these ideals.

Lol ace of knaves i hope your being sarcastic, if not then your a fuckstick, Kiwi's is a term for new zealanders not aussies of and btw for all you americans aussie is pronounced ozzy

It's not the "old suits" that are stopping this, just one. I've said this in the comments of almost every "Australia does something stupid" story on Destructoid. In order to overturn the stupid "no 18+ video games" law, all of the attorney generals of our six states need to agree unanimosly, unfortunately, Michael Atkinson, the attorney general of South Australia is a fascist asshole and wont agree with all the other A-Generals.

Also, referring to this stupid law as "Australia's behaviour" is a bit sensationalist, most Australians can be criticized for not caring but it's really not the fault of the people, the attorney generals are appointed, not elected.

L4DFan123: You're an idiot. First, you can't spell. Second, Australia is far superior to American or whatever country you come from. And lastly, you're an idiot.

ace of knaves: You're just retarded. 'Kiwi' is a term for someone born in New Zealand, but seeing as you're probably American, you wouldn't have realised that it's an entirely different country.
