Admittedly, a few of a us did a "WTF?" double-take when Electronic Arts said it would be bringing their third-person action-horror title Dead Space to the Wii. But it's happening, and here are your first details ...
The game will be called Dead Space Extraction, and will act as a prequel to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions that hit shelves late last year. The game tells the story of space colonists trying to escape an infection on Aegis VII, a space mining colony, introducing a new female character into the mix. The game will feature new weapons, new enemies, puzzle, and -- here's a big one -- cooperative multiplayer.
Dead Space Extraction will, of course, be all motion-controlley; EA hasn't revealed how they'll implement that into the game, however. The trailer (after the jump) shows us little -- it's a cacophony of space horrors! -- but has some thinking the game may be play out light-gun-style, a la Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles.
We should know more soon; Dead Space Extraction is scheduled for a fall release.
If the game controls like RE4 Wii, then I will pick this up the day it arrives. I really hope it is not a light-gun game, though. I would be rather disappointed in EA if that happened.
I want to swing my plasma cutter around with the Wiimote :(
played dead space on 360. Was a good game. By looking at the video and the info, it looks like the game has potential. grateful that there making a new game insted of a port.
I think this is a much better decision than porting Dead Rising down to the Wii...build an entry to the series with the Wii in mind and not try to redo the 360/PS3 version.
Just so long as it's not a light gun game. I have a feeling it isn't.
I wish and hope Capcom see sense and give Wii its own RE game, not more light gun crap. Even the sales of RE4 on Wii should tell them that's its possible to do it.
As for Dead Space on Wii, I said before that I encourage this. Wii is at if not near Xbox 1 spec, and judging by the Xbox 1 Dead Space footage on Dtoid not so ong ago, I think Wii can handle it fine.
I too pray EA see sense and don't apply a cheesy Umbrella Chronicles light gun adventure. I think it's more likely to have 1st/3rd person views, using more ideas similar Metroid on Wii. The inclusion of co-op multiplayer is interesting, as it seems EA are trying to steal Capcom's RE thunder more.
EA, if Bioshock and Dead Space are heading to Wii, where the hell is Half Life1/2/Portal?? That deserves to be on Wii just as much, and should work well.
Really? I wasn't expecting the Dead Space franchise to get the rail-shooter treatment so soon. I hope that's not the case, though. I'm more content to just wait for Dead Space 2...but that's mostly because I don't own a Wii, I suppose.
Oh man I was so hyped after the co-op part, but the dude writing this is a jerk and left the light gun bit to the end... I hope its not a light gun game...
What is sad is that if this is a crappy light gun game, it will still probably have respectable sales because moms and the generic Wii audience wont know any better.
I don't think the casual audience would pick this up any more than they would flock to House of the Dead...if it was a light gun game. Also, the whole M rated thing.
It's a rails game. So sure of it. The easiest way to crank out good visuals on less-than-stellar hardware is to restrict where the player can look. You dont' have to waste any polygons on the backs of things.
BTW, the Wii is far more graphically capable than the Xbox, even if the numbers "seem" equivalent to the untrained reader. Compare Metroid Prime: 3 with a first-year Xbox title, and see what i mean.
Seriously though, did people really want a watered down port of Dead Space ? Besides, I love on-rail shooters.
Yes, EA is taking the Umbrella Chronicles approach but it may just prove worthwhile and it's not like we have a long wait for this game since it is coming out this year.
The video is nothing more than a teaser. EA isn't ready yet to show off full footage of the gameplay except for some enemy and environment shots.

at least its an 18+ :P

Bloody unfortunate, it looks quite nice graphically, it was more like the first game with Co-op play I'd re-buy my Wii.

Do Want.
Also, I am glad that the game is a new installment into the series instead of a de-port of the original.
could work... maybe....
can you hear me....
is anybody out there?...
@ Cowboy TTop
Valve is the developer who makes Half-Life, while EA is merely their distributor. EA doesn't get much say at all over Half-Life.
but no if its co-op and not a lightgun platform then big ups to nintendo for getting something like that out for a change
I didn't really see much gameplay.

I love this series. I hope this game turns out great. I'm way more excited about the sequel coming to xbox360 but I'll take what I can get.
FPS would be okay, I guess.
