EA needs a geography lesson photo

Polish gaming Web site Polygamia tells us that the Army of Two street date was broken over there, but that's not the real news item. Our focus here is on a bit of history that Electronic Arts seems to have missed.

When street dates are broken and games sneak out early, less fortunate gamers tend to pay extra attention at those "look at me, I got it early" pictures that the more fortunate share. In reading the fine print on the back of this foreign version of Army of Two, Polygamia noticed something odd in the fine print:

You must be 13+ to register online in Hungary & Czechoslovakia.

Electronic Arts, as of 1992, Czechoslovakia no longer exists! You must have not heard that the Czechs and Slovaks have parted ways.

To be fair, I guess this isn't common American knowledge. We're still going to make fun of you, though. Thanks for making the mistake in English!

[Thanks, Piotr]

Yeah. Being an American company, they have an excuse not to care or even bother looking it up.

Meh, it's all the same to me. I wonder if this offends anybody though. Do we have to be careful about being PC about former Czechoslovakians?

Being an american company is NOT an excuse for this.

Being one of the idiots randomly interviewed on the streets for a comedy segment on Jay Leno is an excuse. Being on an idiotic prime-time game show is an excuse. Being a candidate for Ms. America, apparently, is an excuse.

This is just sad.

Its obviously a typo. It should read "you must be 13+ to register online hungary and would have needed to be the same age to register online in Czechoslovakia

Where's Necros? He's a racist. I bet he's got some good Czechoslovakian jokes.

yeah razer, it's more about the fact that that country doesn't exist anymore, it can't be a typo, cause the new countries are "The Czech Republic" and "Slovakia" respectively.

Oh EA, you wacky company with your geography

I'm still waiting for it to come out in Gaul.

But seriously, I remember my mom telling me about this when i was like 12. did EA's mom not tell thme when they were 12? boggling. seriously, in ten years, and they going to remember that there's now a country called montenegro? let alone kosovo?
John B's Avatar - Comment posted on 03/06/2008 21:18

@Brilliam: Yes, but all of Gaul is divided into three parts. All these differ from each other in language, customs and laws.

So, in which of the three parts would you be expecting this to be released?

I can only imagine how many people on Dtoid - particularly my fellow Americans - are saying, "WTF?!!" right now. Hee hee. :)

That's just weird. The guys who write all that stuff are lawyers, and I don't think they write it off the top of their head. Were they using old manuals or something?

Very strange.

grrza is absolutely right. There’s really no excuse for this, especially when you consider that it’s something that could ruffle some feathers in Prague and Bratislava.

Who cares? The real screw up by EA is that the game is region locked PAL vs. NTSC, so I can't play it with any of my American friends. For a game based on co-op that's just plain unacceptable, and they don't tell you at all except for one little line hidden in the middle of the manual. >:(
