EA, MTV, Harmonix to announce new game Monday; Laguna Beach Hero anyone? photo

Wired's Game|Life blog has word that MTV, EA and Harmonix plan to announce the newest title from the creators of Guitar Hero via a Monday morning teleconference. The title in question has generated reams of speculation from the gaming community, with theoretical titles ranging from Drum Hero (lame), to Guitar Villian (confusing), to Big Band BFF (my personal favorite), and everything in between.

Until they actually make with the announcing, we remain in the dark, but they did drop the following hint: "MTV and Harmonix will also unveil a "first of its kind" partnership with major record labels and music publishers; representatives of those labels will be on hand during the teleconference." What that means is anyone's guess, but if I had to posit, I would assume the new title will have something to do with music.

Unless this game is devoted entirely to the bludgeoning of Carson Daly, I'm probably going to be disappointed.

I wouldn't have any hope if it weren't for most of Harmonix's past projects having the MTV label on them. Sure it gave you a few really shitty songs in Amplitude (OK pretty much every rock song in that game), but overall their stuff has always been pretty good. Having a "partnership with major record labels and music publishers" does sounds even more worrisome though...

To be serious, from everything I've heard come from Harmonix, is that it's going to be a Guitar training program of some sort. Maybe this will be something different but that was their plans, a game that would teach you to play an actual guitar.

@Karma

You're thinking of something else that was already announced, and is for the PSP.

Super Sweet 16 game, anyone?

It could actually be something non-musical, like EyeToy: Antigrav, since I don't see what MTV has to do with music these days.
