EA knows you are having problems with Bad Company photo

Saturday, EA issued a statement via the official Battlefield: Bad Company website, proclaiming that they are aware of connectivity issues that some players have been facing while trying to play online. The statement is written as if the tech guys live in the fictional world of Bad Company, where mercenaries carry gold bars in their pockets at all times.

We are aware that some X360 players are having issues connecting to the Bad Company servers. We've been monitoring stats non-stop and are working with several partners to locate any possible flashpoints and eradicate any hostiles we encounter.

The release then went on to add the most ridiculous “fix” we have ever heard.

Until we are ready to implement a permanent fix, a possible workaround is to turn off your console for approx. 20 minutes before turning it back on and connecting again.

Turning off my console for twenty minutes? What is that going to do other than allow me to whip out another game that doesn’t force me to sign on to servers outside of the Live network? I’m all about squashing bugs and tackling server problems, but treating my console like an overheated George Foreman grill is hilarious.

Have any of you been experiencing these problems? Shall we suggest another “fix” for EA?

[Thanks, Dustin!]

The thought process that developers go by in thinking that rushing a game out to market and then fixing it later so they can make tons of money is awesome.

Totally fucking awesome.

So in other words, the solution is, "Wait a little bit, then try again. Repeat until this works."

Brilliant.

Wow way to have server issues on the platform you had a BETA for

Anyone know if this issue is affecting the PS3 version as well? I'd imagine it would be, since it's on EA's servers and not the LIVE servers. But I do find it funny that they only mention the 360 having issues.

sounds like it's the standard response for fixing tech problems "if you have no clue; tell them to turn off the machine for 15-20 mins"

awww, but look! They tried to theme their email to the game..."monitor for flashpoints, eradicate hostiles"

no problem, EA, we're good with you fixing it whenever, just so long as we keep getting cute emails

or, you know, not. But definitely one of the two.

It's a trick. They made us pay $60 for the game without multiplayer. Soon they'll make us pay an extra $20 for the "multiplayer component".

I'm wondering how many of you have actually played Bad Company and had connectivity issues yourself and how many of you are just looking for any excuse to jump on the "z0mg EA is teh evils wtF/!?!?"

Baaaaah, sheep, baaaaaaaaaah.

i played this garbage for a few hours and came to realize i could've accomplished more by slamming my head into a wall. i can't remember the last time i played such a paint-by-numbers videogame, if you could even call it that. put simply, it felt like being on a treadmill; you're running but you're not getting anywhere. you'll come to the same conclusion after about two or three hours of repeating the same mindless shit of "clear out this place, OK, clear out that place. awesome! now clear out this place" !! all the while, you have to listen to your worthless squadmates spew irritating one-liners and carry on whatever passes for "dialogue" these days.

what a shock, right? more shit from EA like Black and Army of 2.

this company never ceases to amaze me as to what their perception of a "game" must be. they put together these trailers and tv spots that clearly have more polish than the games themselves. i can't help but feel sorry for anyone who got suckered into paying $60 for this turd. this is why i pay for Gamefly.

Rent a movie instead or, hell, get on an actual treadmill and run backwards. you'll thank me later. AVOID.

@Dov (and the rest of the Robot, I suppose): I've actually only played the Beta (my copy of the full version is in the mail) but I had severe connectivity problems during just that. The console would be connected to Live just fine, I could play any other game and I even had friends playing the demo at that exact moment, but I wasn't able to connect to the game servers.

Just as they said, 2 weeks ago I could shut my system down (or step away to play another game) for about 10-15 minutes and when I came back I'd be able to connect fine.

I'm very disappointed to see this hasn't been fixed in the full version, and I will be returning my (unopened!) copy of the game to the store once I receive it tomorrow. I won't pay for a broken game.

Also, there are plenty of other developers that ship completed games (**cough** valve, blizzard, rare **cough**) that are more deserving of the money I drop on my entertainment choices.

Stop jumping on the "OMG HATE EA" bandwagon, you chump.
If you truly hate them that much don't buy their games, DURR?!!11

Anyway; that's unfortunate, really it is. Oh well, probably be just like the Beta; it'll be shit for a while then be okay afterwards. At least that's what my experience was.

So people pay 49.99 ( Canadians a lot more in fact ) to use live and have a "reliable" connection ( and trust me that is BS when half the time your DNS server cannot contact the xbox live server for some reason when every other domain or IP on the internet works fine ). Why do they need to run their own server? Isn't the whole point of xbox live that Microsoft checks for piracy, bans consoles with backups, keeps statistics and game related data, etc?

If you still depend on the publisher's servers at launch then why the fuck are you paying $49.99 for? Microsoft shouldn't allow this to happen, you might as well use the PS3 network thing since that money is doing NOTHING for you if you still have to contact some bullshit third party server anyway.

I haven't had any problems connecting to games when I'm joining them by myself. My friends and I had issues getting into games together in a squad the first night the game was out, but since then we haven't had any problems.

I guess everyone's forgotten the horrible online launches for CoD 4, GTA IV, and RS:V 2.

The only reason that EA has you use their servers in addition to LIVE is that they disable multiplayer after a year for older titles so you have to buy their new ones. It doesn't cost them money to keep the games running, except in the form of lost sales to the new titles.

Dov, good point on the GTAIV, CoD4 online launches. Though I wasn't around for the CoD launch (I take your word for it)- I shared the GTAIV experience. Bad Company has been near perfect for me, except for a half hour stretch when every game I entered lagged like crazy.

Don't get all worked up and start bitching, people. It seems like you're just looking for an excuse to trash an otherwise awesome game. Give it a little bit and I'm sure all the flaws will be taken care of.

I can't wait for Conquest mode. Also, I think BF:BC is much more fun than CoD4- I haven't gone back at all since I got this.

here something else, evidently there seems to be people either taking advantage of an exploit or even more ominous, a memory hack. Check these scores out of the top 3 guys on the left hand column:

Not once while playing did I see their names show up in the upper left hand column where kills are displayed. They all left the round before it finished.

they are boosting using an exploit that i wont repeat here, if you see it again look for a couple of guys huddled up in a secluded spot and proceed to TK them, its great fun and im always more than happy to take the points hit to kill boosters repeatedly 8-D

Oh I'm sorry for pissing you off, your excellency, I seemed to have skipped where you a.) Still pay money to rent the game and b.) still complain about it, even though you chose to rent it.

Now I'm not gonna start some stupid YouTube style argument with you. If you hate EA so much, don't rent the game.

And to people calling this a "flame war" wow, you are easily impressed. LOL.

I have a long time love hate relationship with Battlefield - love tha games, hate the support.

This one is no exception - forget the Single Player part of this game, multiplayer is where it shines. I love everything about teh game itself I just hate the issues with connections and not being able to squad up with my buddies.

I just seems that all the parts EA touched turned to crap! Take the web site for instance that shows the stats - its always out of date and even has the wrong game ranking icons. It's something so simple yet EA just can't seem to get it right. I seriously believe they throw $100 at a $1000 problem.

i turned off again reconnected all the terminals and it still wouldn't load.

whats more i have had loads of probs with battlefield 2 no games-no connection to severs etc.. etc....

what is ea playin at?

surely the money they earn they can supply decent runnin servers

especially if they are working with sony and microsft...come on' keep ur customers happy!!! its the least u can do!!

TUt TUt!!

so i toally agree with GUNGRINNER i totally love their games and hate their support. The multiplayer is awesome but even onPC games such as(mypersonal favourite) Battlefield2142 there's always server problems and you had all that crap with getting your pc monitored for spyware an that never worked either

they just really do not give two hoots about you once you have paid them for that disc. they give technical help sometimes, but my nan told me to just give it a whack once and its about as useful as EA's advice to be fair!

the game play is good the maps are good, the weapons are good

the singleplayer is actually quite good as well despite what CARGO might have you believe. Just them Damn Servers.... and the support office run by primary school kids

AAAAArrrgghhhh!

thanks again EA.....Good Work!
