Yeah, nobody asked for 100% rented servers, EA. Nothing is more aggravating than joining some dickhead clan's server and getting kicked the moment you kill one of them.

Way to kill Battlefield. Who's going to buy Battlefield games when they know free servers won't even be up for at least a year. Pathetic. Pay for Xbox Live Gold, pay for an online pass if you don't have one, then pay for servers. Nickel and diming will kill gaming.

Well, either way, the important thing to remember with a battlefield game is that if you're playing it on a console, you're already doing it wrong.
I was freaked out by EA dropping service from games that only came out a couple years ago. This is really unsettling.
How EA has treated online gaming recently I would be very cautious in buying anything other then a mostly single player game from them ever again. I can understand shutting down servers of long dead games, like they have been, don't much like they shut down servers of games less then a year old, and hate they would have the gall to shut down servers of one of their lead titles that is what 8 months old?
Actually people asked for dedicated servers, not for EA to be the ones to sell them ones. I everyone would prefer the old model of dedicated servers.
The typical player won't have to pay for the servers. So to play online on a server for 30 days you won't have to pay $30 you just join someone else's server who DID buy one for $30. The problem I have is just what someone already mentioned, being kicked when you start playing too good on someone's server. Also I've noticed a lot more uneven games ever since private servers have been set up.
And just like that this was my last battlefield game, and my last ea game.

What Andy said, just do a search for "Destructoid". The maps are a mix of classic and Karkand, normal rules, no extra tickets, no ban hammers, none of that other shit.

Quick Match is literally ruined, because of shitty 1500 ticket metro servers. (Anything with over 300-400 tickets is idiotic)

And the frigging server browser doesn't show tickets, of all the useless info it shows, that f*cking vital info is missing. If I have half an hour to play, it takes me 15 minutes to find a decent server with decent amount of tickets.

This is the first I've ever heard of this "rented server" business. Fuck people are stupid! Anyone retarded enough to fall for crap like this should be shot.
While I understand the physical space issue, I really liked the DICE servers more than 75% of the player ones, but I love extra tickets. More time for the harder ribbons! But they really shouldn't rent out ALL their servers... obviously the demand is there, but keep a limit on the number so you can always have DICE servers. But we really shouldn't complain about dedicated servers and server browsers when at least we have them on consoles.
So what was the point in online passes again? Weren't those intended to pay the cost of the servers? Oh right, it was a cash grab all along.

Okay not quite the same but I think its a step in the right direction. Allowing users to run their own dedicated servers is why so many PC games enjoy a long life.

Just so we're all clear, you can still play online for free. If you don't want to, you never have to rent your own server. You can play exactly as you did before. The only difference is that you're playing on a server someone else rented and (sadly sometimes) set the rules for. Yes this kind of sucks since lots of the servers was bad rules or dicks that kick you from the game, but its not the end of the world nor is it necessarily a cash grab on EA's part.

The problem is not in letting people pay for private servers, but killing official servers because there's multiple private ones now. Regardless of the number of private servers currently, it's really greedy of EA to simply turn official servers down. Imagine if this becomes a tendency and publishers simply decide to let players pay for online servers, like many seem happy to do.

Thank god EA has taken it upon themselves to stop the blight of secondhand servers, Just think if people were allowed to run their own servers without paying EA? That would be like stealing the bread right out of a poor CEOs mouth and then kicking them square in the junk..... now they will finally be able to afford that gold plated toilet to properly display that golden turd :P
Loads of layoffs, bad press, going into debt to buy out Pop Cap, less then impressive sales of its recent major titles. EA is facing hard times so they are cutting expenses were they can.
