They will eventually either learn not to act so absurdly or they will go out of business. I'm happy either way.
I've been paralyzed by cynicism and skepticism in the past, thinking that most consumer reactions are pointless in the grand scheme of things. But it's time to wake up people. There are protests all around the world right now, and many of them have already worked, with issues far more serious, and difficult to address than this. If enough people got sick of this bullshit, we could change it.
Stop giving EA your money. They clearly don't respect their customers, and they don't respect ownership rights. They are trying to erode them every chance they get, in pursuit of "gaming as a service."
you know, like me.
When I used to play MMOs, every day would see a forum post by someone "innocent" who had been banned when they claimed they had done nothing wrong.
However, if it's true, then it needs to be fixed. The obvious first step is to never use EA's forum. Having to depend on EA's customer support is a bad, bad spot to be in.
Absolute cunts. Cuntoids.
What's stupid is for you to suggest that your values should be universal. You want to be outraged over videogames, you go ahead with that, but don't expect other people to prioritize that particular sentiment.
It's pretty simple risk/reward. The overwhelming majority of people who buy the next Mass Effect game are going to have a good experience. In my entire life, I've only had to contact EA customer support one time, and though that was a negative experience, I still loved the game, and wouldn't give it up just because of a few frustrations.
People have a right to complain, and they should complain, but should they be required to give up a rewarding game just on the slim chance that something bad might happen? No. You do what you feel like you must, but I be damn if I'm going to let you decide what I should do with regards to a hobby.
And FYI they are scrumptious ....!
It really comes down to poor planning and creation of the unified ID concept at a corporate level.
Yes, sadly I will never (at this rate) play ME3. Too bad. I really liked that franchise, but I am not putting up with this. I put my money where my mouth is.
Hacking in those 2 examples was an act of thievery not social statement.
Once Origin has enough suckers, they too will be targeted.
What I meant in that post was that people are often dishonest about why they got banned from a game. That happens every single day. I'm not saying that's what happened here, but is there anything evidence beyond here-say?
@SebasGR
If they said it was an error, then it's an error. One that needs to be fixed, without doubt, but that's a different issue than if they said forum and game bans are the same on purpose.
According to different people on Destructoid, I should never buy another game from EA, Activision, Ubisoft, Sony, or THQ, among others. That's just off the top of my head.
Every single product or service has customers who have had a negative experience. Amazon, Steam, Destructoid, all of them. If I lived my life listening to everyone who tells me I should boycott this or that, then I'd be sitting in a lean-to built out of sticks somewhere in the woods. As I said, you do what you need to do, but don't expect people who have experienced little or no problem to follow behind you like mice.
Its not an immortal, so its not the same thing. Apples and oranges and all that.
I'm glad that through steams foresight and superiority, the forums are seperate from gamer ID's. Ea has such a long way to go to catch up to steam that's it's laughably pathetic to watch at this point.
That'll teach them and show people what happens when you buy EA products.
This 'he said she said' garbage reported as 'news' seems like targeted aggression. And of course, Jim's usual sheep are all bleating right along without even grasping the larger issue of integrity and accountability. Stay classy dtoid.
Don't buy their games (don't play their games), don't use their forums and will never use Origin (Hallowed are the Ori). Learn something and make some positive changes or just go out of business already.
Guess clicking on the source material would be too much to ask if you really want more info eh?
And yeah you know when a company with an established track record for being complete tossers is reported as committing a tosserie offense, I'm inclined to lean towards them being tossers vs ignoring their previous tosserings and giving them the benefit of the doubt.
You just don't stop, do you? You're like the energizer bunny. If you don't like it then by all means, gtfo. Stop looking at this site and allowing your children to view it. Jim Sterling is trash and the rest of us are worse than that. We are not worth the precious minutes in your day that you take to come here and bitch about our bitching. You are so much better than us that you should just go.
Seriously, get out of here.
Online Passes, Petty Childish Publicty Stunts, Origin, this and much more mean you should stop buying and using modern products from EA! I'm glad some people are exerting self-control and not buying EA games for a quick fix in a virtual world. You won't make a change buy camping out in front of EA offices: You make a change buy talking with your money.
Everyone should be behind this: It benefits everyone for companies to think about and value the customer as a human rather than numbers in a computer.
Showing images of dildobats on the front page of a major video game website that is mentioned in game ads on TV is sort of ridiculous don't you think? I was just asking for a little more discretion. I do not allow my children to view the 'inner workings' of Dtoid, but I would hope I could carouse the main page and not be afraid of my 3,4, or 8 year old to see someone swinging around a giant vieny dildo.
Is that what we do now, tell people to gtfo for having a different opinion other than yours? Your bitching about EA and myself, so what's so different tough guy?
get the fuck off my jock bro...seriously.
I refused to have all of these accounts that can be taken away on a whim by the company in charge. Who's to say Steam will never get to this level too? This is why I hate digital distribution on any platform, it's all about control. Whenever a company decides to take something away, they have full power to do so because you agree to let them do it in the EULA. That agreement, present in retail games too (but not enforceable) basically says you don't own anything, just the rights to use it.
I like owning my games, or at least the lack of someone else owning them too. As long as I have a disc and a console (not connected to the internet, at least) I can play every single game on my shelf 20 years from now, provided the video card implanted in my brain has an antiquated HDMI input.
Yep, that's how you DON'T backstab your fans. You know, the way you're doing with Mass Effect 3.
Unfortunately this is not going to stay contained to PCs... Consoles of this generation are more like PCs than they are consoles at this point. I'm actually somewhat surprised that they haven't made it mandatory to register console copies of EA games on Origin.
The whole industry is going to hell in a hand basket and it has nothing to do with piracy or used sales but the people responsible for this downward spiral will keep chanting them as the true evils that necessitate their blatant anti consumer actions.
Not to say that piracy and used sales don't have an impact but more often than not they are used as scapegoats to justify anti consumer actions. Just remember even if you buy their games new, to them you are nothing more than filthy thieves ^^
