EA: FIFA all up in the domination of PES photo

Picking up where I left off last weekend, the sport above is called soccer, not football. This is important to note because as I am telling you about how FIFA 10 is outselling Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 by a lot, I will be referring to the sport of soccer and I don't want anyone getting confused. So soccer is the sport. FIFA and PES are the soccer videogames. Got it? Good.

According to EA the perennial rivalry between the two is actually more like a beat-down this year, as EA's FIFA has far outstripped Konami's PES in terms of sales. EA European boss Jens Uwe Intat has been caught saying that FIFA is "beating the heck" out of PES in Europe, with 75 percent of the soccer game sales in the area. That's a pretty whopping chunk that we're sure to hear Konami comment on at some point as well.

It could have some validity, however, as Intat also claims that "FIFA was neck and neck with Modern Warfare 2 [in 2009] to be the best-selling game across Europe." Intat didn't mention any numbers for the U.S., but considering the fact that half the population doesn't care about soccer and a majority of the part that do probably know FIFA far better than they do PES, one could be led to imagine that they look relatively the same.

The people that invented the game call it by it's correct name,Football.

I'm surprised you haven't came up with a new name for golf(bonus question).

Silly Americans doing it wrong all the time.

Uwe is not a last name. The guy from EA is called Jens Uwe Intat.

Just saying.

"Soccer" = Football.
"Football" = Handegg.

It's called football. You can call it soccer if you want, but that's just a nickname that you use to suggest that the good old US created "football".

That American game you try to call football is actually "American pissy pansy pussy rugby", but that's insulting rugby. How can you call a game that you predominently use your hands for, "football". Where's the logic.

Not that I care, I don't like the game, so I won't be buying either of these. Just felt the need to correct a grammatical error.

PES has been going down the pan for years, it's failed miserably to make the climb from the last generation of consoles. FIFA is far from perfect but is still streets ahead in terms of actual fun.

Though for the PCs FIFA is not even close to PES in terms of quality.

Pro Evo used to be the gold standard in soccer gameplay, but that hasn't been true in years. And on top of that they've been technical messes beyond the usually sub-par graphics. It's going to be hard for Konami to get back on top now that they've let FIFA beat them in the one area they used to dominate.

The acronym FIFA has football in the title, stupid Americans and their hand-ball.

Maybe Konami would sell more if PES weren't stuck in 2005.

Also, what turtlehermit said

Well, since 2003 we all know that the US and rest of the world have a different meaning for the words football and freedom :D

Also, the last PES was really horrible which explains the dominance. However, the FIFA/PES crowd consists of a big part that sticks to the franchise, but another big part just goes with the best football game of the year. If a good PES comes out next year, you'll see a minor shift again.

Obvious troll is obvious, and I ain't feeding it.
that said: Football is football, and Americans can't pretend that the name "football" describes their game accurately. Hand Egg would.

I guess I just fed the troll and gave this article more hits after all.

Football is football, invented by our fellow European friends, the British, and it shall be called with its name. American Football is another thing, might as well call it "throwball" because that's actually what you do in that game.
Anyway I played PES in the last ten years but this year I switched over to FIFA which is the better game by a long margin. The only downside is that the team kits look WAAAAAAY better in PES and suck in FIFA and I hope they'll get this correct next year. Shirts don't look anything like their real-life counterparts and I hate that being the picky bastard I am :P other than that it's a whole better thing compared to PES.

Nice to see football games outsell Armoured Handegg games every year.

You see, the football's best country in the world (Brazil) prefer PES. So FIFA is not an option. You need to hear the people who know better than you.

Yeah, PES dominates in Brazil. Because brazilians are stupid and they have problems with changes. They're so used to good PES games that they can't change. And most of those who prefer PES are casual players, not hardcore gamers. Brazilian hardcore gamers actually prefer FIFA than PES. And yeah, i'm brazilian and I think brazilians are stupid, lol.

Footballs best country would surely be the current world champions.......

Unless your just going on form.... Which would make England number 1 :p

LOL, need to point one more awkward thing about Brazil: most people prefer the PS3 than the X360. Yeah, they have a problem with changes... but of course, as always, it doesn't apply to all people. Anyway, I actually own a PS3 too so, I don't think they're so wrong in their decisions.

As one of the 4 people who bought PES this year I can say that it deserves to be outsold by FIFA. They've become what FIFA was in the last generation, just a yearly team and graphic update with very little improvements made. I swear the biggest difference from last year is the menu.

Oh, and it's called Football. Dick.

I really hope that Konami raise their game, and give FIFA a challenge again. Indeed, FIFA has been ahead of it for a few games now, and I don't see EA Canada giving that up easily.

As for the name of the game bit, read the wiki.
