EA ditches the PS3, opts for Xbox 360/PC version of Red Alert 3 photo

Just when we though it was safe to assume that EA had finally domesticated the Sony beast and ironed out any remaining issues they had with programming for the PS3, comes the unfortunate news that Red Alert 3 (for the PS3) has been shelved -- while all resources are diverted to the Xbox 360 and PC versions of the game.

This news isn't much of a shock considering the recent walkthrough trailer for the game doesn't list it as a PS3 game anyway, but it is sort of odd for EA to deny the delay to CVG in the morning, only to have a spokesperson spill their guts about it a few hours later.

Nonetheless, it would have been nice for one of those EA RTS games to finally settle in on a Sony console sooner, rather than later. Sorry, my friends, but your hopes of finally making use of that keyboard and mouse setup -- which you've been chomping at the bit to use -- have permanently temporarily fallen by the wayside. Then again, was anybody even planning on buying this game for anything but the PC in the first place?

[Thanks, Justin]

Red Alert will suck for anything except PC anyways, it's a controls thing.

LotR: BFME 2 on 360 was actually quite good, and the controls were probably the best RTS console control setup ever up to that point. Learning curve was pretty steep though, and in the end there was a decent number of commands to remember, and it was hard to not accidentally select your whole army and have them move out across the map when you just wanted Gandalf to fell a Balroq.

Red Alert 3 though, god I hope this game isn't good. Too many wasted hours on that series. :) Love the FMVs, hope they don't disappoint this time around. :)

Big shock, EA still can't code for the PS3.

You know, EA isn't one huge developer with all the coders sitting in one large room? EA is a publisher that owns several companies. It is not like once one of them learns how to code everyone gets it by fucking brain uplink.

Why is everybody talking about the controls. I can stick any USB mouse and keyboard in the PS3. If I can do it everyone can. UT3 was playable with a mouse and keyboard so why the hell wouldn't it be the same for Red Alert or something simular.

Like all PC games

PC to 360 = easy

PC to PS3 = royal pain

That's the problem, if you start from PS3 and then go to PC/360, it's a heck of a lot easier. Even then, developers out there have already proven that going from PC to PS3 is not only possible, but worth the money invested. They need to hire more competent PS3 developers and project managers if you ask me.

Who in their right mind would play an RTS on a console in the first place?

While I agree that the controls for these types of games are much better on a PC, this is just an example of being lazy, ESPECIALLY if it's EA we're talking about. Besides, the PS3 is more like a PC than other systems --- You can use keyboards and mice if you want to, which mean more control options would be available. It'd be like the PC version on a huge TV.

Not anywhere I've worked.

If the game is remotely playable on an Xbox then I will be picking it up for sure (PC sucks). It's been awhile since I sat down with an RTS and Red Alert 2 used to be one of my favorite games. Sweeet.
