EA 'disappointed' by Infinity Ward firings photo

With Activision firing Infinity Ward bosses Vince Zampella and Jason West, it hasn't taken Electronic Arts long to put on some white armor and make itself look like a good guy next to its evil rival. EA CFO John Schappert has expressed his disappointment at the bitter legal situation, stating that developers shouldn't have to get involved in legal battles.

"I'm disappointed on a couple of fronts," expresses the CFO. "I'm disappointed because I think Jason and Vince, on the human side, are two great guys, I know them personally, they've done great things. And I think they're two of the best creative leaders in our space.

"And to think they're going to spending their future dealing with litigation and lawyers rather than crafting the next great experience, I don't think that's a win for them, I don't think that's a win for our industry. I think that's disappointment. I hope that they find a way to continue to make games and focus on that during this period."

Simply entertaining the idea of Activision caring about what benefits the game industry makes me laugh.

EA is that guy that waits until his friend breaks up with a girl then gets right on in there.

I wonder if Activision woke up one day, decided "Fuck it, that's enough money", then just bit the hand that fed it.

It would be like Microsoft getting rid of Bungie after Halo 2.

Well, Activision is doing one hell of a job being douche, when EA looks good next to them. That's for sure. 5 years ago I would not have thought this was how it was going to end.

@Strandli:

End? Oh, no sir. It is not over. Just wait, in 10 years Platinum Games will be the new big bad megapublisher, with DRM on PC games that requires you to delete all iso files on your hard drive and Bayonetta sequels produced entirely by slave labor. Activision, on the other hand, will have been entirely swallowed up by Blizzard, whose first entry in the FPS world, Bulletcraft, will be host to 2 million daily players. EA will be gone and people will long for the halcyon days of such classics as Madden '02 and Madden '05.

So I guess MW is going to become a yearly staple now then. Oh good.

@JustLikeBuck - Or Sony dropping Naughty Dog.

Has anyone seen what Activisions plans are for the CoD series? 3rd Person Action Adventure was mentioned.

Hm...Hey, EA? You're the lesser of the two evils. Buy the rights to Prototype, please.

Still evil, but compared to Activision, you're just a bit violent when you're drunk.

American business 101 - reduce outgoings BY ANY MEANS. Use legal loopholes and crushing contracts to keep everyone who makes you your money on a short and easily cut leash.

@xzyliac Britain and America work on the same rules. I hate British business practice almost as much as American!

The rule book written by a comittee of 300 (the name rothschild appears many times in anything to do with the subject) funilly enough, they're also the people who ultimately profit from the setup. also a funny fact, every possible us president elect or british prime minister for the last 100 years has been a member of the group or a connected group.

Hmmmmm. But that's for another site.

I'm disappointed because Jason and Vince, on the human side, are great guys. But on the cyborg side, they cannot be trusted and always steal our shit with their high-tech wireless hacking routines. Goddamn cyborg menace!

wow SexualChocolate, thats some bright thoughts put in to play. See when not putting hate on your comments they actually come out rather intelligent.

But this is business first and foremost, it sucks but thats the gaming business. Now, it WAS InfinityWards FAULT for letting themself get bought by EA.

ANY COMPANY WHO LETS THEM-SELF GET BOUGHT OUT BY THE BIG BROTHER SHALL SEE THIS HAPPEN TO THEM. This is just part of the business game, don't let the nice contract lure you to temptation.

Maybe EA will hire them on to make the next interesting game in their line.

Mirror's Edge, Dead Space, Dante's Inferno

Let's keep the new IPs rolling.

I'd say this is the pot calling the kettle black, but EA hasn't been too horrible in the past year, basically. Like, if Dante's Inferno is the biggest black mark against them, well, they're doing worlds better than Ubisoft (whose games I can no longer buy because of my internet connection not being ultra incredible) and Activision.

Are you hated and reviled as a corporation...?

Stand next to Activision!

Considered the black sheep of the industry...?

Stand next to Activision!

Unwanted and unloved by the gaming populace...?

Stand next to Activision! Their inherent douchebaggery will make any despicable person or company look friendly and lovable.

Microsoft does it. EA's reaped the benefits. Why not you?

Corporations aren't always the bad guys.
Usually, but not always.
If it turns out to be true that those Infinty guys were having secret meetings to wrangle a deal to go to another publisher...if they were breaking their contract as well as showing absolutely no loyalty to Activision, who took them in as they formed Infinity, gave them what appears to be a near limitless budget (the series has never lacked in production values) and let them have creative control...as well as all the public interviews these guys made where they take potshots and petty insults like a bunch of college kids at Treyarch's Call Of Duty's (seeing as they're both with Activision)...well, yeah. That's insubordination to the extent they should be fired.
Hell, they were the ones trying to cut Activision out. IF true, then they're the a-holes in this situation, not Activision.
In fact, they ditched EA back in the day to see if they could horde more money for themselves, so this follows right in suit for these guys.
And EA, get off your knees and get Infinity's d*ck out of your mouth. Have some dignity. They already know you want to hire them. Again. Because your dumb @ss learned nothing from the past with these idiots.

It's a nice try...but it's all a shitty sack of lies.
