Good to see those claims of online passes being justified through server upkeep is holding fast. Yeah...I know that probably none of these actually have online passes, but...ONLINE PASSES R TEH GHEY.
I really liked the Saboteur at first, until it started repeating itself over and over again in its missions. I never finished it ither.

It's fun for what it is. Well worth the $20 you'd pay for it now. It does get pretty repetitive, though, as every mission is "blow shit up" unless it's a half-assed stealth mission. Good, not great.

Also, The Saboteur was great for the first hour and a half. Then the problems with the stealth mechanics were made even more apparent during a rescue mission which, for some reason, rubbed me the wrong way so I quit.

Honestly, I only remember The Saboteur for Anthony Burch saying it was a "good bad game", before proceeding to have a rant at anyone who misinterpreted his badly articulated opinion. Ah, those were the days!
I actually saw The Saboteur in Gamestop the other day used and thought of buying it. How would closing the servers for the game effect it? Cause then I will know whether or not to get it.

I bought Battlefield 2 from XBLIVE solely for the online part, only to find the servers had been shut down and i had wasted my money.

Every time they do this, and say 1 percent of people will be bothered by it, it adds up. Eventually, it'll be everyone. I have a TON of games I haven't even opened yet, guess I better hop to it on the older ones
Always sucks when servers go down. I just hope that this also means a price drop for those specific games as well as online multiplayer coming off their descriptions for digital downloads.

@Notorious - I don't know abotu Saboteur as its an older game, but many of EA's games - particularly ones that require an online pass - also require an online connection to play. No server support for that connection would render a game unplayable.

An unfortunate reality for online console play is that it is the short shelf life. An advantage PC games have traditionally had is the ability for gamers to host their own dedicated servers. In essence, the gamers themselves keep the online play alive. Relying on the game studios/publishers to host online play will always mean some day those servers won't be available.
I honestly can't even figure out what cutting off online access to The Saboteur would *do*, unless the Midnight Show DLC actually required a connection to EA's servers to work at all?
It's BS that these games lose features as time goes on because the company decided that it no longer wants to support the game.
I can understand if maintaining servers is an issue, but give the communities for these games another option instead of just saying well too bad.

that's happen when a company includes multiplayer to all their games.. plus the games that require online pass will suffer the same prob.
im not to keen on how they work. but do peer to peer online games require any server of any kind? so if 20 years down the road a peer to peer online game should still work right? like they cant shut down servers for those types of games can they?

I don't think they require any server, but I could be wrong. Giant Bomb threw in THPS3 (might have been 4...) a few months back and the online for that still worked just fine. Like no shit, it was kinda funny/cool. They didn't have to do anything special to their consoles or any of that bs either.

I agree with Sexualchocolate. If they're gonna deactivate the servers, they need to pull the games from the shelves or issue bigass warnings on all copies (including digital ones).
Good job EA demanded control of their own servers from Microsoft before they used XBox Live. That's working out well.
Shame, thought it was one of the good points for actually paying for Live. Look at something like Race Driver GRiD which shut down on PC and PS3 because of the contract with the guys that host their servers ending or something. Yet jumping on Live, people still play that game quite a lot. Probably due to the destruction races.

I see... so we need to make sure you get money for the servers and you make us pay for an online pass to, essentially, cordon off what might be the main portion of the game and THEN you shut those down anyway? On servers that are just authenticating single player DLC?

Phew....I thought that said Burnout Paradise. I started to cry, but then I read it again, and saw it was Revenge. No serious losses there. Especially the Saboteur. That game was the biggest disappointment of this gen for me.
This is why anyone defending the online pass horse shit needs to wake the fuck up. At least on the PC side of things, the game can be cracked or modded to use alternative IPs to spoof the gatekeeper functionality, allowing continued play.

I beat The Saboteur and rather enjoyed it. Its online pass withholds boobies, stripper dances, a dart board minigame, and a car.
I'm gonna play some Bioshock 2 online tonight I think, it's only a matter of time before someone pulls the plug on that...

I loved Saboteur. It was one of the first games I got a Platinum on it. Enjoyed it thoroughly. Not sure why all the negative.
So not only they make it annoying for costumers to play their game, they automatically lose value whenever they decide to close servers. I can't believe people just let them get away with it.

They need to consolidate the servers, it is the sane thing to do. Shutting them down isn't good. I don't like this shit.
this is BS given the fact that MS is holding all servers for games on their own free off charge for each publisher since we, as customers are paying for them by Gold subscription.
