Well, just when we thought Virtua Tennis 3 would be the first Xbox 360 title to come in 1080p, Electronic Arts sneaks in the news that NBA Street: Homecourt will support 1080p on the 360 as well when it comes out Feb. 20 (the PlayStation 3 version comes out on March 6). From Gamasutra:
Following yesterday's news that Sega's March 20 release of Virtua Tennis 3 would herald the first Xbox 360 game to feature native 1080p support, a representative from Electronic Arts has revealed to Gamasutra that its upcoming NBA Street Homecourt, shipping a month earlier on February 20, will also support the high end resolution on Xbox 360.
While Microsoft first announced support for native 1080p games and movies in its October 2006 Xbox Live update, it heralded a number of titles competing to be the first to offer the highest-end HD resolution, and it appears that EA's title will indeed beat Sega's to retail with the hitherto not well-publicized resolution included.
The fourth game in the EA's fast action basketball series, and the first for a next-gen console, NBA Street Homecourt will support multiple resolutions, including 16:9 1080p at 30fps, according to further information from EA representatives.
scew 1080p, i just want this game to have online so i can play this with my buddies. i played the first 2 NBA streets so much with my friends it was disgusting.
Now that there will soon be (native) 1080P games, maybe we could do an actual comparison. I seem to remember devs saying that 720P "is the sweet spot for games right now."
If sweat already makes them glisten abnormally in a standard-definition game, 1080p must allow them to glow with an inhuman radiance that causes cancer and ultimately consumes your soul.
Too bad that there is no real benefit to 1080p vs 1080i. 1080p is just so they can still sell tv's at super high prices. Any projection style tv is incapable of displaying an interlaced signal so it is already 1080p. Save your money, buy a 1080i and you can't tell the difference unless up close.
