EA announces SKATE soundtrack, outlaws rejoice photo

You've seen the screenshots. You've heard about the new "Flickit" control system that's going to revolutionize the skating genre. But now, the question that has been burning brains across the world is finally being answered -- which one of the Ramones' songs is going to make it into EA's SKATE? The answer to that question, and more, will be answered after the jump, where the games entire soundtrack is listed by artist. The aural selection is rounded out by excusive tracks from DJs like XXXChange and Tommy Guerrero. If that doesn't get you excited, then that makes two of us.

According to Steve Schnur, Worldwide Executive of Music and Marketing at EA, the game's soundtrack "is a direct reflection of true outlaw skateboard culture. It's a throwback to the days of underground skateboard videos when skaters created their own soundtracks that raided every genre of music."

Creating my own soundtrack ... hmmm. Gee, that's a clever idea. I wonder if any of the consoles I own will allow me to do that. Because if one of them can, chances are I will never have to listen to any of the game's 45 licensed songs. But custom sountracks? That's fancy moon talk.

A rather uninspired list if I do say so myself. I'd rather they left the soundtrack off and let you import your own music. That isn't just aimed at this particular game, but all of the soundtracked games. All 3 consoles can do this, so why not. There's nothing worse than having a track playing you don't like. I mean I know you will probably be able to create a soundtrack of songs that you like from the list, but seriously, that's going to be a handful of songs...on repeat...for god knows how long...

i'm stoked for this game, and custom soundtracks on the 360 once again prove to be worth thier weight in gold.

there is some really descent hiphop on thier though, both the coup and dead prez? someone, somehwere, likes good rap.

There are some definite gems on that list. You CANNOT go wrong with The Dwarves (greatest band in the world!) And Black Flag? Oh yeah.

SLAYER!

I do feel like this soundtrack is A Frankenstein of things that have come before it. Haven't all of these songs at one point been in all of the THPS games? At the very least, other games in different genres?

Overall, the list isn't terrible; but I wonder how much cash is put out for these songs, and if it would be better spent invested in other areas of production. As evidenced by my snide remarks and the few comments already, I'd imagine the songs will be quickly replaced with custom soundtracks or a gamer's stereo system.

I recognized 6 tracks from that list.

Dear every game publisher in the world,

Stop it. We like our own taste in music more.

All they really need is one or two good songs in the game ... period. It's not like you buy a skating game to listen to the music. It would suck if the only thing that really differentiates future releases of Skate and Tony Hawk are their soundtracks.

I don't remember skating and listening to music. Something about my giant tape player in my pocket and my not being able to olly down steps at the same time.

I can't believe that they out the Coup and Dead Prez on there. That is great! I would have preferred the Coup's "Laugh/Love/Fuck" but I guess Ride the Rail is more appropriate for a skating game.

Black Flag... nice. But seriously, I'd much rather turn the sound off and just throw on my own Black Flag album.

I can't seem to recall any skate videos featuring the song "Give it to me baby" by Rick James in the background. Maybe I'm just not so well-versed in them.

Are those the only songs they can license from Slayer and N.W.A.? Yeah, we get it, they are popular songs. How about something different for a change?

I love both Black Flag and Bad Brains. But it's always sad to see bands that once produced genuinely rebellious/thought provoking music end up in something like this.

So did they disable the 360 custom soundtrack feature or are people just bitching for nothing?
