EA announces downloadable Madden Arcade for holiday 2009 photo

Remember 3 on 3 NHL Arcade, the $10 PSN/XBLA hockey game that hearkened back to arcade sports classics like NBA Jam and NFL Blitz? Well, it seems that NHL Arcade sold well enough for EA Sports to do something similar with its biggest franchise -- in a conference call today, Peter Moore announced that Madden Arcade is currently in the works. It’s set to launch during the holiday season.

No further details were provided, though it’s probably safe to assume that the game will be released on PSN and XBLA. However, Pastapadre points out that the Madden name alone could mean that the game will sell for more than the $10 that EA charged for NHL Arcade.

So what do you think, Dtoiders? Are you expecting something smaller than 11-on-11 with power-ups and big hits? And more importantly, is that something you might be interested in for $10 to $20?

On topic, more arcadey games less sports sims? Yes please. I'd take Mutant League or Blitz over Madden any day.

Hell yeah, I'd take Madden arcade over normal Madden any day.

NHL 3 on 3 was fun... if they can make this fun, yeah I am all for it.

Only football game I ever liked was Blitz 2000, so if it's like that, I may play it.

Thing is, Madden isn't much of a sim itself. It's the closest thing to one, but all the exploits that douche Madden tourny players take advantage of pretty much take all strategy out of the game. It could be far more rigid, MLB The Show style, that's for sure.

That said, I'd give my left nut for a return of classic Blitz style gameplay.

Honestly, I'd be interested in a simplified, arcade-ified cheap sports game. Keep us updated, Samit, and if it turns out it's good, I'll grab it on the PS3 to play with you.

Correct me if i'm wrong but didn't the NFL crack down on the Blitz franchise because it was too violent and not the image the NFL wanted. Why would they allow it now?

When this was called Blitz, it was 10 times better.

If it comes out, I'm in for 1. NHL wasn't my thing, but NFL is.

NHL Arcade was amazing, this has serious potential. NFL Street was a great game to play with friends on the big old black xbox.

I'm with NihonTiger, Blitz already has the arcade football market down, we don't need Madden fucking things up.

Everybody, save the inevitable $15 this is going to cost and just buy a used copy of Blitz: The League.
