E3 10: Metal Gear Solid: Rising asks 'What will you cut?' photo

Right now, during Microsoft's E3 press ponference, Hideo Kojima came out to show footage of the new game Metal Gear Solid: Rising. It was one of the coolest things I have ever seen.

Granted, I am a huge Metal Gear fanboy, but, wow. Seeing Raiden -- the playable character in the game -- cut through everything on-screen was one of the most badass things I have seen in a really long time.

And cutting is exactly what the game is going to be all about. Using an on-screen reticule/guide, players will take part in a third-person action title (reminiscent of Ninja Gaiden) that follows Raiden as he slices and dices his way through ... well ... everything.

Seriously, the footage shown has Raiden cutting up robots, soldiers, concrete walls, and EVEN WATERMELONS! This title definitely looks like one to watch out for!

Check back in a few for the video footage!

I heard from someone that the sword that Raiden uses is grey fox's. Can anyone confirm that for me?

Can't. Fucking. Wait.

That white stuff on the floor could very well be my excitement for this game.

Yeah, I just said that.

I'm glad Kojima didn't care when everybody called Raiden a pussy in MGS2. Call him a pussy now and he'll cut your cock off!

Day one baby. Daaaay one!

I actually kind of liked the swordplay mechanics at the end of MGS2. Bit of a shame that the game had so little of it. I hope this ends up just as fun.

@pedrovay2003

I'm with you on that one. Peace Walker is the most fun I've had with a Metal Gear game. Normally MG controls frustrate the hell out of me but PW's are great even though it's on the PSP. I'm really looking forward to seeing how they take the series into a new direction since it's no longer tactical action. This game should be awesome.

I was worried about this game when I heard about it and thinking it was just gonna be a hack and slash game (still might be) but omg if it still didn't look like all sorts of badass... All I can say now is that yes... I do want and yes I will buy.

I am hyped. The cutting technology was the thing that impressed me the most when playing the Afro Samurai demo, but I never bought it. So this is combining my favourite things ever: Metal Gear Solid and brutal murder.

Hoping there's some emphasis on non-leathal takedowns still, but looking forward to seeing how this one pans out regardless. I, too, am quite taken with Peace Walker at the moment.

DID anyone else notice the blue/orange disk that would appear on screen when you went to cut, it looked like it was tied to an accelerometer. As if it's going to be used with KINECT or a controller with an accelerometer. Go back and watch the trailer it doesn't look like something a normal controller would control.

Ironically, I think this is the one controller-based game that would have benefited from some sort of Kinect/Wii/Move-aided control scheme.

Not simply because "action-imitation" is fun with full-body movements (it's not), but because determining the precision of a cut's angle would seem clunky with an analogue stick or whatever. Wii Sports Resorts Speed Cutting game comes to mind, in terms of executing perfectly angled slices in an elegant and engaging manner.

It may come as a shock to many of you, but motion control can be integrated in a subtle, elegant manner that actually benefits "core" games and gameplay.

Im a big Metal Gear Solid fan too but I was not impressed by this trailer one bit. The 'cutting mechanic' does not have an ounce of my interest. This game, so far does not look like metal gear. I actually am not looking forward to this title at all and it really hurts me to say that.

I'm sorry, but compared to Peace Walker and MGS4's trailers this wasn't a great trailer.

The cutting mechanic does look interesting, but I'm really cautious about this game.
