Whoa, take a look at that! Hidden in a letter from corporate VP of Xbox Live Marc Whitten were a couple of surprises that Microsoft didn't cover in its press conference.
"We are making it easier for you to sign into your Xbox Live account from any console at any time to access your game saves and full profile, including items such as Microsoft Points to make purchases, Achievements and friends," writes Whitten. Cloud storage for game saves and Live profiles is coming, guys. No more gamertag recoveries!
Beacons were also announced. "Beacons are a way to tell your Xbox Live and Facebook friends that you want to play a game on Xbox Live. By setting a Beacon, you tell Xbox Live what you want to play. Then, Xbox Live lets you know when friends are playing or want to play the same game."
Best news of the day for Microsoft?
Jordan Devore is Destructoid's PC gaming manager and founding ginger editor. He is said to be easy to love but difficult to know. When Samit inquired about his curious bio photo Jordan simply replied:
"bitches love sandcastles" ... yet, there is no sandcastle in that photo. We may never truly understand his ways.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
And why didn't they cover the nxe at all? It looks so damn sleek.
And you know what? I'm with llort het with this one -- The PS3 also locks saves to profiles, or the hard drive itself. Achievement and Trophies are pointless and all they do is ruin gaming.
Me and my friends have craved this feature since the 360 came out, glad it is finally being implemented.
"as always MS has loads of cool stuff that's not on their conference."
Can't blame people for expecting them to, you know, actually show it off.
As for cloud storage with ps + all game saves even those that can not be copied are available for cloud saving. The 2 problems are :1 can't mass copy data/must wait 24 hrs to get it off the cloud and 2 a pathetic 150MB is your cloud when imho it should be 20+GB so you could store map packs and psn games off system freeing up precious HDD space and we should be able to play the games from the cloud.
MS could improve on sony's rough cloud service but while xbox 1 let you copy profile data to multi systems 360 put a stop to that while sony has no problem with it. If you had a 60GB ps3 then ran out and grabbed a slim you can simply log in using an existing psn account on up to 5 systems....which is 4 more than ms allowed until the new update. Should be interesting
Any idea if it's Gold-only?
