They are the only company on the planet that would give a real time tech demo of one of their most popular franchises ever (The Legend of Zelda) in full HD and a game about how accurate two people can draw an inch nearly equal billing on their demo kiosks.
It goes without saying that I didn't get quite as much out of Measure Up as I did the Zelda HD demo, but it was still fun, mostly because of who I was playing it with. Shannon, the Nintendo rep that walked me through most of the Wii and 3DS games that I played at the show, is nothing short of fantastic. Everyone email Reggie right now and tell him to give her a raise and box of sugarbears.
Wait, I should probably have told Reggie (and Iwata-san) that myself, and they both were lurking around while we playing the game. Creepy!

I have to admit that's a good point you brought up about Nintendo: it's like they treat everything equally, no matter what it is. It's one of the reasons I've supported them for so long and why I'll keep supporting them for years to come.
I still say the controller is a gimmick, and 98 percent of games won't even take advantage of the new features, but I gotta admit, i'm excited for some creative wario ware/raving rabids games.
@Mattrodroid Well, Sony is already in a position to do similar things with the PS3 and Vita if they want, albeit that's a bit different since people have to buy the Vita separately. I'm personally not really sold on the Wii U yet after getting burned on the Wii, so I'll have to wait and see. Just getting multiplatform games isn't going to do it, because hey I can get those elsewhere already.
One has to admit Nintendo will go into new raw territory (or tapped territory but not fully exploited) just to innovate or at least spice the gaming experience. Like when the DS came out I remember most people scoffed and said it was a gimmick and would crash and burn, but it ended up practically monopolizing the handheld console business. They get a bunch of things wrong but when they get it right oh man do they get it right. I hope game companies take advantage of the new controller.
I think they should put a traditional controller 1st and then add the tablet controller. Like the Kinect. I really hope they make the Zelda like the demo
Shannon is adorable. And Measure Up looks pretty entertaining-- I can only imagine what kind of craziness will ensue when a WarioWare type game uses this.
For the love of God and all that is holy please learn how to use gimmick correctly. Gimmick does not by its nature carry a negative meaning. You know what it means?
Definition of GIMMICK
1
a : a mechanical device for secretly and dishonestly controlling gambling apparatus
b : an ingenious or novel mechanical device : gadget
2
a : an important feature that is not immediately apparent : catch
b : an ingenious and usually new scheme or angle
c : a trick or device used to attract business or attention <a marketing gimmick>
remove the "catch" and gambling parts of that definition, and all it boils down to is a selling/marketing point.
let's take a look at what each console this gen touted
Wii=Motion Control
Xbox 360=HD Graphics
PS3=Blu Ray and Sixaxis motion controls
I swear to God sometimes its like listening to kindergarten kids...

Really though, its a game, not an experience. Calling it an experience irks me.
