Tim has a point, to an extent. I'd rather use my systems vertically but then again, I was planning on building a glass case where all the systems are housed and dust free. So, at the very least, I'd prefer the option to do both. If M$ and $ony can do it, so can Nintendough.
the wiiu was able to fit in iwatas hand anyway. i doubt people really have multiple consoles vertical anyway

Didn't they pretty much tell us this last year? This isn't new news. Not that I ever really cares, because I never stand any of my systems up right.

Also stacking systems on top of each other doesn't sound very smart. The xbox has a fan on top of it and the PS3 is slightly curved. The Wii is too small to stack something on top. Unless I'm misunderstanding ppl, that is a dumb idea.

Hopefully there's a stand, even if it's bought separately. If the line-up turns out alright, I have no room for it. My Wii is stood up because there is no alternative.

Well this is a bummer. While I doubt I'll get this at launch (Still no price, ninty?) I hope a 3rd-party does make a stand because I just don't have the room in my set-up for a horizontal console. Bad show Ninty.

This is displeasing. Standing them up saves so much space on my desk. Although it's a shame to see so many people with the irrational fear of standing their consoles up. The only console the hurts the disc when you move it while playing is 360.
Who gives a fuck. The Xbox 360 taught us how dangerous keeping your consoles vertical actually is (and is a great way to immediately recognize how clueless a fellow gamer is). If the drive isn't well made your discs are fucked. Since then I've kept my 360 and PS3 horizontal. Fits better in most entertainment centers that anyway.

Damn I was hoping it would have a stand like the Wii. I prefer to play with my Wii when it's erect, and I'm pretty sure I'll feel the same way when I play with my WiiU.
As a former Gamestop "game advisor" I beg of you, for the love of all that is holy, do not store or use your xboxen upright. I have seen way too many tragedies resulting from that.
I'm actually legitametly dissapointed about this. One of the things I liked about the wii is that it can stand vertically, and it came with it's own stand. It's just easier to have them vertically for me. My horizontal PS1, PS2, PS3 & Xbox already take up alot of space.
I've got the Xbox 360 S and it doesn't stand up. I guess it could but you couldn't put discs in the tray and you'd be blocking half of its air intake. However, my Wii, 6" to the right of my 360, IS upright. I don't have room for another horizontal console and I'm not comfortable stacking.
