But I suppose that's the point: force the player to look at their hands/hold their controller in front of the screen so that the zombies have a better chance of killing them. Certainly adds to the atmosphere...
All the mechanics look cool and flashy in their video, but I'll be pleasantly surprised if even half of it works half as well as they want us to think it does.
Ugh, why am I so skeptical and disbelieving? What have you done to me, video games?
What's that? Need to grab some shit in your inventory? No, can't pause the action, motherfucker, whip that shit out on your pad and get a move on.
What's that? Need to hack a door? No need to have a kepyad fill your screen and miss the zombies biting on your taint. Slap that code in while you watch zombies bearing down on that ass.
What's that? Need to aim your sniper rifle? No more having a little scope in the center of your screen with all that lovely peripheral vision. Get all blinded up while zombies bumrush your brains in.
Loved it.
Are there any tablet functions that can't be done on the tv screen or be seen by a little radar in the corner? I'd rather have a constant radar in the corner than to take my eyes off the zombies to look down at my lap, find the radar button, then see the red dot closing in on you only to look back at the TV and already be under attack.
Oh yeah, we need motion controls so we can shake our arms furiously every time we want to escape from a zombie attack. Fuck that.
I will wait for some in game stuff as to not ruin anything.
One hit kills you
If you die, you respawn as a different person, and must kill your former self to get old equipment back.
No checkpoints or quicksaves.
No pausing for inventory management. Everything is realtime.
The door hacking though? That was actually pretty cool, letting you see just how screwed you are while you fiddle with the door should really add some tension.
I'm hyped for some hardcoarz survival horror.
Take notes, Jonathan Holmes. You really don't need broken ass controls for a game to be scary. Just good game design. That's why Resident Evil is shit. No substance to the fear. The old games had some good atmosphere, but they've all used tank controls as a crutch.
