E3: Top Gun: Hard Lock wants you in the danger zone

2:10 PM on 06.08.2011 // Maurice Tan

In an alternate reality, Tom Cruise and his husband Jonathan "Katie" Holmes are enlightened philosophers who fight injustice, superstition, and illiteracy around the world. Unfortunately for us, in this reality 505 Games is publishing a game with Paramount based on the classic and totally heterosexual Top Gun

Top Gun: Hard Lock, set in present day times, will follow a batch of elite naval avatiors who are fresh out of the Top Gun academy. The game will feature MiGs and an F-14 despite being set in a modern era, as well as a number of other licensed planes and weapons.

It also has something called the "Hard Lock" mode where you can perform special air combat maneuvers for flashy action. Looking at some of the screens, that might be QTE action with dual analog sticks. 505 Games' multiplatform games can go anywhere between the "Haha, wow!" of Naval Assault to the "That was not that bad actually" of IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey, so let's see where this one will end up along that scale.

We'll find out just how hard that bromantic lock will be in Spring 2012, when Top Gun: Hard Lock is released on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.
