Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike is my favorite fighting game, so I was sold on this online-enable port from the get-go. Thankfully, it appears that Capcom was sure I'd be so easily sold on the game, as they've added seemingly endless amount of new features to the game, most of which are detailed above by Mr. Seth Killian. Also, this just in-- Simon Viklund of Bionic Commando Rearmed fame has remixed the entire 3rd Strike soundtrack for this re-release.
I hate to say it, for fear of sounding like a fanboy, but I want this game just as badly as anything else I saw at E3. I can't wait to test my Ibuki and Yun skills on the virtual streets on the inter-webs.

Of all the street fighter games I've played, I've probably played this the least. Im super excited to get back into though. I'd have just loved a basic copy of the game with online-play, but Capcom really stepped their game up with the extra features and unlockables. I am EXCITE!
I never got into 3rd Strike, but I like the idea of being able to upload matches directly to Youtube. I hope that other games will adopt that in the future.
Yo, Holmes, If you get it on ps3, Play me. I play Chun, Makoto, Ryu and ken. My Makoto is actually my best though. This is the only SF that my chun is actually my secondary. Everything else, she's my best. Ironic i know, Since she is top in this one.
this is also one of my favorite games of the show and with it being a rehash (albeit an amazing-looking one), that's really saying something about the state of the mainstream industry, at least for me.
Hated SF3. IMO, parrying just fucking ruined SF. Not to mention the anime style versus the more 'real(bare with me)' style of my favorite SF of all time(before SSFIV), Street Fighter II.
HOWEVER
This video(Part 1& 2) basically sold me on the game. With respect to Sir Holmes, this one goes way more in-depth and if you're not sold on SF3: Online, like I was(n't), this might just do the trick.
Still hate the idea of parrying though, but I'll actually be buying 3SO now.
^ If you sir are showing sarcasm, I tip my hat to you for knowing the difference between a good SF title and a not so great one. However, if it is sarcasm, it is kind of unnecessary. =/ If it's not sarcasm though, I feel bad for you. You missed out on depth.
I don't understand how people think this game isn't worth 15 bucks. Why? Because it's old? Last I checked, no other version had Youtube support, GGPO netcode, trials, a remixed soundtrack, extras, etc. Any other version of Third Strike you find out there will be probably twice as much money without any of the features (Hell, with XBL support for original Xbox games gone, you don't have ANY kind of online play for it anymore, good or bad netcode).
That's why I don't like SF3. That's all it is/was. The people who defend it claim 'LOL U SUK AD KANT PERRY' and complain that IV is all fireball spam. I agree to an extent only because I play a character who is vulnerable to fireball spam but I can still find ways around them so I have no complaints. In my opinion SF2 was the best SF ever until IV came along and that was ass compared to Super/AE, which is now favorite SF of all time.
Justin versus Daigo was an amazing moment in gaming history but to have that game be nothing-but-that? No thanks.
Oh, and I'd rather have Parrying and a good balance between offense and defense than SF4's ultra-heavy focus on playing defensively and waiting for an opponent to fuck up.
As a rush-down/mix-ups oriented fighter, SF4 was not my game. SF3, on the other hand, I did pretty well with. Not Top 16 worthy by any means, but I actually had fun with it. Even when I win at SF4, I hate it. I just can't stand it. I can't even play with friends anymore because even when I win, I'm just bored.
I mean, shit, I play as Elena. It's practically impossible to parry with her because she moves so damn much even while she's idling, and her moves are pretty easy to parry as well. It doesn't get me down.
I'm with you Holmes; Third Strike all day, everyday. Capcom is always a highlight of E3 for me, and this game was the crown jewel of their booth. I cannot wait to start playing as 3S Ryu, Sean, Alex, Makoto, ELena, Q, Akuma, the Brothers, and everyone else again.

Wow, I love the soundtrack to BC:R, so that's pretty awesome!
Also, I would love to see a game of all parries in person. Usually, all I see are predictable attacks being stopped, but a whole super!? Wow, that's dedication to practice.

Parrying was the best thing to be introduced in a street fighter game in the last few years. If I had lost to someone that could out parry my supers, they deserved that win, no doubt about it. At least it gave people a better chance against spammers than the tools they have now in SF4. I still play this game on my Dreamcast, so getting an updated version is all good for me.
The soundtrack was something that really was perfection on it's own, since it was the only SF game that I can recall that actually played one single song in 3 different portions of the entire fight. Though I gotta ask, what's with the character select music I heard during one of the E3 streams? The character select song I heard sounded absolutely awful compared to the original hip-hop song that they used in 3rd Strike. The person who remixed the Bionic Commando soundtrack did a great job, because it was a transition from an 8-bit game soundtrack, to a modern day one. Remixing most of the music for this game, when the original had several songs with full english lyrics seems a little unnecessary...
Anyone who's saying they're going to be parrying all the time hasn't played Third Strike. If you miss a parry you're wide open any parry players I've seen get creamed. When you're jumping towards your opponent and we can see you're not blocking or don't have an arm or a leg extended WE ALL KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING.
Yes you can parry in a match, and those that parry well get wins, but players like that are few and far between. It's simply bad tactics to go all out and just think to yourself; "I'll just parry their attacks" The best players I've fought tend to use parrying mostly when cornered, the rest of the time it's defensive zoning play - as it is in a lot of fighting games. Parrying adds a nice tactical layer but it's by no means all this game is.
I look forward to dusting my Dudders and Ken down after 8 long years.
As some one who hasnt played VS fighters in many many years (SF2 Arc / MD & Tekken 2, 3 and Soul Cal) Im looking to finally get back into the genre when SSF4 Arc hits PC. However I will be picking up one more 360 fighter to get stuck into.
However I havnt decided which one to pick, either this game, soul cal 5 or one of the Tekken / SF tie ins.
I understand the 3rd strike is a fav of many vet players. Is it something that a noob with pratice and abit of skill and beable to play to a half decent std. Or is the game the dodonpachi DOJ / Ketsui / Battle Garegga of the FTG genre and something that due to complexity and twitch skill is best suited to players who are skilled in the genre?
To bad 3rd Strike has one of the worst mechanics in fighting games: Paryying. Seriously, this made zoning pointless, not to mention that they aren't rebalancing Online, which 3rd Strike sorely needed. Enjoy playing nothing but Yuns online...again.
I know most of you people won't listen anyways because that's just how these places are but here's my response to your "problems" of 3s because I swear to god a lot of you just read Viscant's bullshit article on why SF4 is bad and dug around some OG thread on why they hated it. Btw Viscant is a smart player, but he's a MARVEL player, not a SF player. In fact he's complete SHIT at SF games, 2-4:
Parrying: If there was so much parrying in 3s then yeah it would be a dead game. If you're getting predictable however, then there's a reason for it. There's no corner lockdown bullshit like Bison's lk, lk, kneepress in the corner or god forbid a DIVE KICK that does CHIP DAMAGE ala Cammy in SF4 that pretty much makes it impossible for you to do anything since she has advantage after it.
On top of that, GOOD players actually think to, you know, use normals to anti-air instead of mash out srk all the time. And what can you do with normals on hit? Cancel them into specials? What? Effectively killing the parry timing and making it that much more dangerous to do so. And some moves are even WORSE to parry than to block, like Akuma's air fireball or up close/point blank fireballs.
You can jump in, you don't have to do something EVERY time you jump in. You bait parries and you can still cross up. You can set up the throw from the bait, go for the high/low mixup, overhead, whatever, no one is fast enough to parry EVERYTHING and anything. Like I said, if you're predictable then you're going to get punished for it. Oh, and the game won't break throws or give you an advantage ("think" for you like in SF4 where all you do is hold d/b and hit throw so you get either a throw break or a cr. jab depending on what the opponent does which leads into any and everything Ultra) because you have to earn it.
The game promotes playing smart and thinking on the fly rather than ok, go for this situation, lock it down in a linear fashion. I mean christ have any of you ever seen a Honda match up list? its 8-2 on anyone without a fireball and 2-8 on anyone with one. Parrying eliminates these kinds of situations and highlights the character's strengths instead of weaknesses.
Zoning: You can zone in 3s. It's all about how predictable you can avoid being. Since you can play characters all kinds of ways rather than just the one way (to win) like you are in SF4 and SF2 (moreso 4 because that game is a piece of trash) and if you want to play lame, you can. If you want to play rush down, you can. You have 3 different super moves to decide this. Ryu can definitely play zone if he wants. You not only have 3 different speed fireballs but EX fireballs that are multi-hit that set you up for throw/high/low. Use is 1st super instead of Denjin and you have all the tools to zone, you just can't sit back and throw fireballs predictably.
tl;dr Parry and zoning arguments are fucking retarded especially from people who barely played 3s and listen to old fags who hated it and new fags who quote/read Viscant's garbage ass essay on why he sucks at the game.

I'm very sorry, Holmes, but I hate Ibuki. Hate her.

I do want this though, my favourite fighting game ever, though I wish they added a couple new characters with the money they got from Super IV.
Sagat, Cammy, Guile, and Bison, and then I'd be as happy as I could possibly be.

I haven't seen them on destructoid yet.
Damn, it's going to be a mental shock going back and forth between SF3 and MvC3. I'll make it work somehow.
As a rush-down/mix-ups oriented fighter, SF4 was not my game. SF3, on the other hand, I did pretty well with. Not Top 16 worthy by any means, but I actually had fun with it. No seriously, I cant wait to make love to this game.. sweet sweet love..
