It worries me that Square is obsessed with graphics and building tech demos, recently I know more about their tech than about Final Fantasy Versus XIII. How many games did they make with the technology used for Final Fantasy XIII?
Applaud them for what new stuff? Graphics? They aren't even the leader in that regard anymore, not to mention the fact that what they have given us is hardly "new" and they've barely given us anything anyway.
This demo isn't inspired by the Middle East. FF XII was heavily inspired by the Middle East. This looks like someone copypasted some slum area from Iraq. The people with guns don't come off as terrorists just because they have guns and they're in the Middle East, but more because of that particular way their faces have been covered. And FF have always had stuff from Arabic mythology, like Ifrit.
Don't bother thinking this is a new game, or that a new game is coming "soon".
The complaints in general are due to the fact that it's generally giving the people the idea that square feels its okay to make their games linear RPG joyrides, there's nothing wrong with this but I would like to say as gamers a large majority of us prefer actually playing the game as opposed to a game which is about 50% cutscenes, you could say it's the whole metal gear solid 4 argument, the game looks great, and the story was great, but a lot of people felt that the gameplay became undervalued.
:(
I really liked the black mages with pointy hats. RIP Final Fantasy.
Square Enix releases a tech demo showing off what their graphics engine can do.
The internet immediately complains that graphics demo does not look like a Final Fantasy game.
good job guys
