Sony just announced to new products aimed to get consumers to give 3D gaming, TV, and movies a try. First up is the Playstation 3D monitor -- a 24 inch HD/3D TV that has the added capacity to play local co-op games without the need for split screen by displaying two totally different screens at once. The package comes with a pair of 3D glasses, an HDMI cable, and a copy of Resistance 3, and retails at $499.
Less exciting is a new low cost pair of 3D glasses which retail at $69.99, which is still expensive as hell. Still, for a luxury purchase, that little 3D TV isn't too bad of a deal, and that "split screen without a split screen" trick is impressive. I just wonder if it has staying power, or if like 3D, it's just some visual "wow" factor which quickly becomes less exciting after the honeymoon period is over.

Hopefully they'll have a larger version in the future as 24in widescreen pretty much means I'm going to have to be cheek to cheek with my buddies. :)
1) How many games will actually support it?
2) Will it be another nail in the coffin to four player split screen?
It is hard enough to find games with four player local support as it is.
buy it. I would've payed a couple extra hundred for a slightly bigger set. Still great deals for those beginning a home theatre or a smaller room.
do the glass give each player a different view of the screens? so player 1 sees one screen and player 2 sees another?
Personally, I'm likely going to get this. I've already got a huge TV, but I'm always playing the PS3 in the bedroom, and this is the perfect size (and price) for that.
The prospect of 3D porn and sexual content is what it's all about.
If they threw in a collection of some of the hottest female videogame characters on there with some ecchi game then I'm sure the fanboys will sell their kidneys to go get it.
also glasses free or gtfo.
The monitor doesn't sound too bad but still not sold on 3D until it becomes glasses-less.
