I already own silent hill 2 and hate it and never finished it, so that's even less incentive to buy this.
Co-op handheld action is the real story here!
I like it. PS2 games don't llok right on an HDTV. The aspect ratio looks wonky and the textures are muddy. I'm glad some good games are getting HD rereleases. Not only that, but it's a good way to catch up new gamers for continuing series (eg God of War, Metal Gear, Beyond Good & Evil). It makes sense to build a new fan base or sustain the old one before releasing more sequels.
Silent Hill 2 is one of the most memorable, most unnerving and unsettling gaming experiences I've ever had. Don't read anything about it if you can help it.
That being said, don't hype yourself up for the Silent Hill series too much. Remember that most of the people who loved it played it many years ago, when the landscape of gaming was much different. As with Ico, I worry that people who play it now won't be able to relate to it in the same way.
Of course, since I loved the original and its not being included, I'll pass on this collection.
I always wondered why you made me wear that weird pyramid thing on my head.
I'd get an apoplexy (out of happiness) if they remade SH1 with new graphics though (very unlikely)
Yeah, I'm guessing licensing has to do with the missing games and some lack of Xbox support by Konami in their collections. Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath HD has similar publishing problems for the 360, so it's only going to be on PC/PS3.
Speaking of which: How well did the Xbox port of Silent Hill sell? Not very well if I remember. That probably has more to do with it...
Japanese horror isn't schtick or predictable like this outsourced crap.
What's funny is that even the parts of SH2 that fail the hardest, the unpleasant side characters, the repetitive fighting, and the big empty environments, all seem to feed into the game's feeling of decay and sickness and only make it a stronger experience.
I replay this one almost every summer. It's going to be hard waiting for October.
SH2 has a little bit of peripheral plot mention in SH4 The Room, but not much.
So IMO, SH3 and SH-H are the only ones that don't need an HD port, the others really need it and they were intentionally left out. And with this nonsense exclusivity, this looks like they're shooting down their own feet.
Dude, it's because of you and those of your kind that Silent Hill isn't the same. Think about the genre, there's a reason why it is (or was..) called "Survival Horror".. well, it used to be that way -- I really hope they slowly erase the "action" element in the new titles of the franchise. But that's not going to happen.
SH is not about the action, ffs.
they'll probably include a voucher for Silent Hill 1 download for PSN(they did that for MGS1 for MGS Collection HD)
still im a little wary about this, because:
A. it seems silent hill 4 is missing in the collection(seriously konami, it's the last Team Silent game; include the damn game)
B. the recent news about konami changing the VA, what the fuck? seriously Konami not only your changing the original design, but tampering Team Silent's masterpiece despite being disbanded years ago. how can you go wrong from a simple HD high resolution, improve sound quality, increase frame rate and better visuals? just do what Team ICO did, up the resolution and visuals, increase frame rate, and add trophies, maybe 3D or Dual Audio(in other games) NOTHING more. you could add new monsters and all but that's it. this is not a REMAKE. it's only a HD Collection nothing more. you don't see them replacing the voice actors of MGS(god forbid) or ZOE(seriously do not screw this up).
hopefully there's dual audio for MGS and ZOE collection(as an OPTION).
it seems Konami is not tampering any kojima productions game yet games like Silent Hill and Castlevania keep fading on what makes them unique. i wouldn't even want to know what would happen if konami release a new Suikoden in their current state nowadays.
very disappointing konami, might have to pick up the PS2 version(only Silent Hill 2 is missing), but i might still buy the collection just for HD visuals and all.
If so, that's a problem - SH2 did have some uneven voice acting and strangely translated dialogue, but there's the chance to taint the memory if they don't do a good job this time. Cihi's soft voice is pretty unique for a main character in a game.
