They said as much when they first announced the game.
It's just going to have Wii U exclusive levels that use the touch screen.
I'm still really excited about the game, as Origins was my favourite game of last year. (I bought it on PS3 and Vita)
But There are a few small changes I'm not liking.
I really don't like the inclusion of the 3d characters.
I've never liked it when there is a 3d element in a 2d world.
It just seems jarring and stands out far too much, like when they make the car 3d in The Simpsons.
You can pull it off, but very VERY rarely.
I just hope they keep the 3d to a minimum.
I'm also not big on the new way there shading the characters.
I dont dislike it, but I much preferred the simpler style used in Origins.
It made the characters stand out more from the backgrounds, and better suited the way there features would morph to ridiculous proportions during certain actions.
(They also look somewhat less defined without there strong outlines)
A guy from Ubisoft confirmed in a recent interview that this is a Wii U exclusive. Ubi never once mentioned other platforms when talking about this game; the end of the trailers themselves even show a Wii U logo in that place where companies put platform logos or whatever, and no other system is anywhere to be seen.
If you wouldn't mind, would you perhaps be willing to share a source confirming that Ubisoft is bringing RL to other platforms besides Wii U?
Exclusives are crap. A third-party IP like Rayman should always be available on all consoles (especially since the Wii-U is shaping up to be a shit console with useless gimmicks).
On top of that, Origins was multi-platform (I bought it on Xbox the first week it was released), so its sequel should be too, damn it! Also, Legends being an early Wii-U exclusive means we'll have to deal with all kinds of tacked-on touch control bullshit. This is all bad news, and those who loved Origins have every right to be angry.
@coyotelunaire Exclusives sell systems. Where would your Xbox be without Halo and Gears?
You have a point about exclusives being system-sellers (although Halo and Gears are steaming turds, but that's beside the point). But shouldn't a console be successful based on its own merits instead of having to rely on third-party exclusives?
Anyway, most Rayman games have been available for all consoles. The fact that Ubisoft keeps this one (a sequel, no less) as a Wii-U exclusive seems strange to me. It feels like a stab in the back.
I suppose that's a fair point, and in most cases probably a really good one. First-party games really should be the ones that define a system. But in this case, I can definitely see the logic -- Rayman Origins didn't really make huge amounts of money as a multiplatform release. I'd say it did barely well enough to warrant a sequel (and probably wouldn't have gotten one at all if Rayman wasn't an established franchise already). So I can understand why Ubisoft might be inclined to take a big wad of cash upfront in an exclusivity deal rather than gamble on the multiplatform market again.
I'm interested to know why you bought a 360 if you don't like Halo or Gears of War.
