Out of all the games so far, this and Watch Dog are on the TOP of my list. Watch Dog was EXCEPTIONALLY well done, and so was this demo, but because of my fanboyism, I'm gonna go ahead with TLOU as my #1 game, and WD as #2.
Anyways, looking forward to Nintendo's Briefing tomorrow. It's a tie between Ubisoft's and Sony's right now IMO on who had the best conference.
I'm going to be the outlier here and give a big middle finger to the hype, though, and say that way too much of it looked hands off scripted.
Not to mention I just watched the Star Wars 1313 gameplay, and the whole cover based third person action/shooter thing is wearing on me.
This game looks really good, but I'm afraid that I'll overlook it unless it's a masterpiece just based on the fact that, in raw gameplay terms, I'm fucking so burned out on the whole cover third person action/shooter that I find myself unable to have fun unless there's something mind blowing in there,
Signed,Hideo Kojima
Yeah I've been in that boat for a while as well, so hopefully this game has a more open world type thing going on to fight against that fad.
I'm glad I'm not the only one feeling the same about the whole third person shooter deal. Probably why I'm a little on edge with that Watch Dogs title too.
A tech demo? But the game was being played in real time, on a PS3 console, with a DS3... Aren't tech demos just videos you watch and or interact with a few tiny details like controlling the view and etc? You saying you're confused is like saying you can't comprehend how good this game looks and plays... And it's a brick that Ellie throws, not a bottle.
@Ilort het
I can't be the only one who is tired of your bitching.
Did you see any events where it might not be under your control? I'm not saying that there won't be Uncharted-like moments (like floors, buildings, etc breaking on you just at the perfect moment), but the guy demoing probably just did the same actions he did while rehearsing for the onstage demo as to not mess up. I bet that you could have shot those guys from first time you saw them, and have different outcomes to how the enemies would respond.
To me, overly-scripted games are games where you don't have options on your gameplay.
Hooray murder
Yeah I kind of went onto to retract that whole tech demo thing in the same comment, I also have a problem with using appropriate words sometimes (no justification), in retrospect tech demo wasn't right, should've just stuck to scripted.
The vibe it originally gave was that of The Walking Dead and I Am Legand, which I was actually digging. It would have been cooler to see them work out a situation with the looters to take on the infected rather than kill the first humans you see.
Missed opportunity, I think.
I don't know. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that it is only giving you the illusion of "freedom" just based on the dialogue. For example the first enemy that runs away unhindered despite being shot and says "he's over here" and the protagonist responds with "get ready" seems like no matter what, that exact scenario is going to play out. Then the way that the characters dialogue reacted to the very scenario that was going on. The way that the protagonist slammed that guys head against the table, it all seems to indicate either it's scripted as fuck, or that they put tons of effort into creating dialogue and distinctive AI for pretty much every scenario you go into.
Haha I thought you guys were gonna rip me apart. Well, thanks on not doing that! :D
But yeah, I think we need to see more before we can truly say "scripted" or not. For all we know, some moments might be scripted, and some not.
The whole thing reminds me of I Am Alive. You're one of the last people living after the huge disaster and you spend the time killing everyone off. Maybe it's established in other parts of the game, but nothing there said these guys were enemies. You sort of just attacked them. I don't know, I guess the whole killing a man begging for his life getting cheers kind of bothers me. Which is funny, because killing a man begging for his life in Ninja Gaiden 3 seemed to bother several game journalists. I guess that kind of action is okay when we're building up the hype machine.
I hear what you're saying, and I hope that your suggested scenerio presents itself throughout the game. I would like a game that has multiple avenues of resolution, and I hope that this game has all that. But I can only assume that the presenters had a finite time in which to show their product and chose the more intense situations in order to maximize their impact. As for intensity... Hell ya.. that last shot was amazing.
I understand your discomfort, but somebody's pleas lose their impact when they were moments before trying to do the same to you, with the help of their buddies, against one guy and a young girl. I'm suprised he wasted the bullet, but it was cinematic. Again, like you said, we weren't given the set-up.
If it wasn't scripted and they had the dialogue and AI adapt to your gameplay... damn that would be amazing. Instant replay value just to play it again to see characters say different things.
Done right, guided storytelling experiences like this should have their place too.
