truth: they sucked. lords of shadows is not just a genuinely amazing game, its also the first genuinely amazing castlevania game, period.

Seriously, that's one of the things I love about the X360....custom soundtracks for every game.
Whoa, I think you're lost man. IGN is a few blocks down the road.
Anyway, I gotta say that I do miss the incredibly varied soundtracks of the past. Symphony of the Night's soundtrack is easily in my top 5 of all time. Orchestral compositions are fine, but it's obviously the "we need to make this seem epic and cinematic" move that is the primary driver for their use most of the time, with enriching the experience coming secondary.
The LoS soundtrack was fine, though, and with the entire industry seemingly moving in one musical direction, the series could have done much much worse.
Shit has been going on for about 2 days now.
You're fired.
Konami still hasn't topped Castlevania 3. They almost did with "Super" Castlevania 4. Then Iga took over and all the characters look like Daryl Hannah in lady-coats and pirate bondage now.
You have a shitty taste in videogames if you consider all previous Castlevania titles bad.
Oscar Araujo Is good at what he does, I'm glad they kept him around. I remember Araujo saying that he was working on the soundtrack for the sequel right after LoS came out.
I totally agree. Seriously, when did memorable, distinct and original music became obsolete? Nearly every darn game today sounds exactly the same - same generic orchestral "trailer music"! I remember so many great, GREAT tunes from old games. I remember them after a decade and more! How many soundtracks do I remember from recent games? Well, almost none. There is a good tune here and there sometimes, like Mass Effect or Bastion, but the rest of them are absolutely blaaaaand!
Remember "Bloody Tears"? That is what I call "EPIC". The soundtrack for Lords of Shadow is just OK. As far as OK'ness of a standard orchestral music goes. Not impressed, sorry.
In saying that it's just not a fluid image hearing a retro upbeat rock opera styled song like the old days with the type of imagery they are going for in the rebooted series - The only time it would fly is if Kojima camped up the characters like he did with Raiden during MGS4, you know, to that "cringe"-worthy, androgynous campy Shibuya/Tokyo pop-cultural factor...
So, I think some of us have to accept that, however of course I will not say the movement of the series musically or visually is overall an evolution, but it's what it is - Of course, I still keep close the memories of the amazing music produced of the latter year games of this Castlevania series.
Vampire Killer, Bloody Tears, Heart of Fire are classic songs. CV1 and SoTN are Classic Game. LoS is a decent entry with decent music in an AMAZING Series.
castlevania was always a fantastic idea, poorly executed.
Lord of Shadows finally did it right.
Keep those rose tinted glass on, fanboy nerds.
I'm pretty sure she took a long nap between Symphony of the Night and Order of Ecclesia, though. Everything in between (even her non-Castlevania stuff) was pretty forgettable.
I genuinely don't see how some poorly animated, incredibly dated games that never changed from the original NES to pre lord of shadows could be considered better than the gothic masterpiece that lords of shadow was. I will never understand that.
I played sympony of the night on xbla, and i thought it was terrible. Horribly dated. I understand people are nostalgic about crap like that, but if you were honest with yourself, the old castlevanias took a great idea and threw it away. Lord of shadows thankfully changed that.
Super Castlevania IV is my favorite game of all time, and the Castlevania series is my favorite game franchise of all time, but I can't think of a series that needed a complete reboot more than that one. I liked what Mercury Steam did with Lords of Shadow--it wasn't perfect, but it showed much promise--and I'm excited to see what they will do next, especially with the criminally underrated Araujo returning for the soundtrack.
Honestly, LoS was one of the best soundtracks I've had the privilege of listening to, videogame or otherwise, and I can't wait to hear what he does next.
He's not my favorite composer ever or anything, but I thought his stuff was really well done, and really fitting for the mood of the game. The old Castlevania OST would have stuck out like a sore thumb in that game.
Myth: New Castlevania is better than old Castlevania.
Truth: Nobody says that! There are over 25 game in the series, and to make a blanket statement that they are all bad is just mindless fanboy ignorance and illogical. Most people agree that LoS was a God of War rip-off. A good rip-off to be fair, but it felt so little like Castlevania that it hardly deserved the name.
Fake myth not only busted, but proved non-existent. Fanboy spanked.
LOL if you think a 2D shitty graphics jap game with poor story and dialogue is better than an epic , sweeping 3d combat game.
I know you little fanboys are in denial about it, but put it to most average, non castlevania fanboy gamers, give them ten minutes with Symphony, and ten minutes with Lord of shadows, see what they prefer.
Your old cvs have been abandoned in favour of the new superior lord of shadows timeline. You mad? stay mad!
MYTH: old cvs are superio

You should be greatful your old , shitty date series has been allowed to share the same name with LOS.

Japan has some good games, but castlevania was a concept that, to me, was always crying out for a western developer since it uses western monsters and pop culture. The old cvs were typically japanese, with effeminite characters and villains and stilted writing and dialogue.
I am so very glad that it went to mercury steam. If you enjoy the old games fair enough, but I much prefer the beautiful imagary , remincisent of del toro, and superior 3d combat of lords of shadows
