I never, ever thought the PS Vita would match the 3DS price. Considering how dependent Nintendo is on handhelds.. this would be a reason not to buy Nintendo. Wii U.. who knows. I think there's a good chance it will create excitement.
Maybe they pulled their support to jump on the PSVita bandwagon? That was probably a good idea of them, if they did. Hell, who knows, Sony may use the PSV to do some of the same shit the WiiU can do. They can use future PS3 games to sell a shitload of those things.
I just want to know what happened to Microsoft's stock though.
Only thing that worries me is the absence of actual tech specs for the Wii U, the fact tablet controllers wont be sold separately and that Nintendo's naming stinks. We'll see though eh, Nintendo Stinky!
This is just speculation made by people who are paid to speculate. You know, the kind of thing Patcher gets reamed for every day.
Its true that mobile gaming has gone to the phones since, well, every fucking body has a phone. That doesn't change the fact that there's a huge market for dedicated gaming devices. The 3DS sold well, and there will be tons of people who weren't interested in the 3DS that will jump on the PSV. Will they out do mobile phones. Hell no. Will they do great for what they are. Of course they will.
People got scared because they didn't know what Nintendo was/is up to just like a lot of people on this website thought.Especially after the fact that Nintendo said all the screens for "ports" were from the 360/PS3 version. People were already gushing over the fact that the games looked "so much better" then their counterpart console versions and then had to stick their foot in there mouth when they found out they were all the same.
If PS3 or 360 do anythign in the next year or two this will be old news.
@acetated
I take you are a fortune teller or that you are a billionare from buying and selling stocks? How did the 3DS do...
@MuddBstrd
Is this what you think or do you have proof? Social networking doesn't set the bar for what fails or succeeds.
.
This is in Japan. I guarantee you, they care about the handheld market. The PSP and DS still outsell the consoles over there. The 3DS just possibly sustained a blow in the Japanese market. Sony didn't display the price in yen for nothing, especially with Kaz on stage.
That's something we can all agree on.
"People are puzzled whether this will really sell,"
I'd say that makes sense. We can't be sure how it will sell since we're hardly even sure what it will do. We have an early indication sure, but all the major stuff is yet to come.
Come back next year, see an entire conference about WiiU, including trailers for upcoming first party titles, and watch the stocks soar.
I expect the 3DS to sell well in all regions except Japan.
Holiday 2011 you can expect a price drop and Super Mario being released to combat the PSVita.
I agree, but analysts wouldn't hit Nintendo hard based on Sony's new handheld. Thats all I'm saying there. The speculation as to how hard Sony could hit Nintendo's handheld market share is a lot less pertinent to the overall market than how hard smartphones will hit the entire market as a whole. Devs releasing good $15 games on the iPhone is a much bigger threat to both Ndawg and Sony than they are to eachother, especially considering the price of handheld games on the 3DS, and what I can only assume that Vita games will be pushing north of $40 with the added potential costs of a data plan on top of that for the online features.
I think MuddBstrd hit the nail on the head for the most part. Consoles are moving more towards media and social network boxes than ever before, and it's being pushed harder than the games themselves. Gamers will buy games, but we're a captive market (choose between a few systems that play mostly the same games, one system meant more for the casual crowd, or spend tons of money on a good gaming PC), it's the market outside of the dedicated gamer that Sony and MSoft are after. Until Nintendo hops on board with all the faux social stuff like Facebook, analysts are going to assume less sales.
Actually, I think you make some great points! Never thought of social media that way as I personally don't want social media mixed in with my games but the casual market sure as hell does.
Would have got lost in the "crowded ocean" or whatever the fuck metaphor Ninty used years back.
They needed this. And it will work fine. Doubting Nintendo seems to be a new hobby for everyone, but it all ends up reversing itself.
Even the downtrodden 3DS is picking up, fast.
Personally, I AM getting a Wii U :D
What I do agree is that the Wii U was confusing and I'm not really digging it myself. Personally it feels kinda lazy to just use the Wii name again, but then again Sony has been doing it for playstation through their four consoles (PS, PS2, PS3, PSP) and that means nothing when it comes to their library of games.
I'm pretty sure stocks took quite a hit when the Wii was announced as well. Just the typical flow of business. Who wouldn't be somewhat skeptical of the Wii U when Nintendo revealed so little about it?
I trade and look at charts every day. Most of these comments feel like people talking about baseball that have never seen a game ever played.
No, of course not.
Cool story bro. I heard another Madden game is coming out, you'll probably buy it.
I remember after the tsunami how people were all investing in Japan, and I was like "No! The country's in a long-term spiral of decline!".
I mean it is true that the Japanese rebuild remarkably quickly but things aren't going their way these days.
Then again, I think people were jumping the gun by selling stock so early. I'm sure many people weren't so comfortable about the Wii when it was announced. The measure of success for a Nintendo console ties into is ad campaining. Ya see the 3DS might've done better and instilled confidence if they advertised it a whole lot more but they didn't, hence they couldn't create the buzz.
Either way people should wait to see how Nintendo markets this console first before they think of selling stock.
